Golden Mantled Mommy

Golden Mantled Mommy

This Golden Mantled Ground Squirrel was about to be a mommy (swollen teats and overly thick through the middle) and was very hungry. She begged food from us for most of the time we spent on the summit of Avalanche Peak. I know one is not supposed to feed the wildlife, but I admit I fed her (I shared my granola bars with her – she especially liked the nuts and seeds). Of the dozen or so squirrels on the summit, she was the only “pushy” one and ate right out of my hand (once she finished licking salt from the straps of my pack). Obviously I was not the first person to feed her.

Very Cute Indeed

Perhaps you were not the first person to feed her, but obviously you don't know what it's like to be pregnant ... anything for food, including abandonment of prior scripting or instinctual coding! No fault points for feeding a hungry mom.
