Grace will test all your skills
Beautiful winter day, no wind. Hard pack snow. Brought snowshoes, crampons, poles. Never needed the snowshoes. We left at day break and good thing we did because we needed all the daylight we could get. You do not want to hike this in the dark. Numerous stream crossings, no trail markings, blow down. You follow the North Fork of the Boquet and then the South Fork, so it is easy to get turned around. Only do this hike if you know what your doing. Not for newbies, especially in the winter. Have fun! Bring good food and start early. You want sunlight and you don't want to bonk on this one. Be safe

Gorgeous Fall Day
What a magnificent view of the Champlain valley.
Beautiful canopy of fall colors (mostly yellows) and perfect weather. We were impressed by the beaver damn we crossed over.
My back pack felt unusually heavy and when I checked it at the summit, I found a hard cover book that was in there by accident. :) At least it wasn't my laptop!

Fourth of five
Took me about an hour and forty five minutes from the summit of Hough to here so this was where I took a meal break. Fine views.

Dix Range Traverse
About 20 miles of horrible snow conditions, brutal mountain ascents and descents, and unmarked, untamed wilderness. You know you're on an epic when you leave camp at 7:30 am and don't return until 11:00 pm. With that said, adding five more 46ers, getting awesome weather, and experiencing killer views made it all worth it!
Hiked up Macolm, S. Dix, to Grace, then to Hough. Went back via Lillian Brook trail, didn't have the time to go to Dix too and spend the time I wanted to there. Great day, perfect weather, couldn't ask for better. Met a lot of cool people along the way. 9 1/2 hours time. Good pace for me. There was a guy almost running up the Macolm slide, something about 24 peaks in 24 hours I think...I think he could make it, looked easy for him!

Grace Peak
The herd path between S.Dix and Grace was a muddy mess and the spruce was brutal on my skin. I found the view to be quite beautiful even in comparison to Hough.

Four in a day
You gotta love it when you can knock off 4 in a day, Macomb, South Dix, Hough and Dix with Dan and Jason
Summited East Dix Mountain 4012' during a 2 night backpacking trip in the Dix Range. After summiting its neighbor Sout Dix Mountain, we continued on the path from South Dix down to the col and the up East Dix Mountain. The summit provided excellent views. A nice place for a lunch break. We then retraced the trail back to the summit of South Dix Mountain in order to reach Hough Peak.

The Dixes!
In June '78 I knocked-off 5 peaks with my Scout Troop and a great leader that hooked me on wilderness adventures (Dix, East Dix, South Dix, Hough and McComb)

Tough for Dogs
Hiked up the slide via the herd path from Rt. 73. Excellent hike, and the slide is a lot of fun, although much more difficult near the top. Views are gorgeous - weather was mostly overcast but clear and calm. Would NOT recommend bringing dogs up the slide. We had a lab and a golden that successfully made it, although there were moments where we were dragging them and pretty sure we could go no further. We descended via the herd path to the side of the slide (didn't know it was an option beforehand), and out by the same route we came in. Spent one night alongside the trail on the way in; trail includes some beautiful camp spots along the river for backpackers.

Dix Range Traverse
Did this as part of a one-day Dix Range Traverse. Came up the Macomb Slide and then down the herd path over South Dix. Beautiful sunny day with a few clouds here and there. Very nice views from East Dix. Forgot to go past the summit to check out the slide, oops!
Unique High Peak, would love to revisit the cliff sections.

Dix range
This was another ADK adventure. We climbed the whole Dix range on the 4th of July.It was a very cold 35degrees that day with on and off rain with high winds. The highlight of East Dix was a dog rescue that I got to participate in.The dog was a yellow lab named "Maxx" who had been stuck up on a ledge for a few days.We found him and his owner was as greatful as he.For the peak itself, with all the excitement I did enjoy some of the open rock outcrops along the way.The summit was socked in preventing any marvelous veiws, but it was still a highlighted adventure....JW
