Hiked up the mountain at least twice, not quite sure of the dates other than the it was early summer and still a bit snowy the second time, and I remember practicing self arrest on a steep snowy patch.

Great Loop
Took the Shirley Canyon Trail to Shirley Lake and then bushwacked to the summit. Descended via the Granite Chief Trail.

Unbeatable!
Took the tram up with Cedar to save wear and tear on my injured knee. A perfect day! Warm temps., clear views, hardly any wind, snowy Desolation peaks to the south and wild flowers.
Tagged a fun class 3 crag at the pass on the way back then killer smoked pizza at Fireside in the village after the hike.

Where's the snow?!
Not enough snow at squaw to make skiing worthwhile, so hiked up Granite Chief instead. Some snow cover along the PCT but trail was easy to follow. Great weather and views at the top.

x-country from west
we didn't take the easy way. parking at talbot campground on the west side, we hiked several miles into granite chief wilderness. after which we went x-country following the middle fork drainage to the back of squaw valley. the pacific crest trail took us to base of peak, we continued to summit setting up a bivy there. we spent a good night watching fireworks from the summit. nice...

Granite Chief to Squaw Valley Resort
Full trial without snowshoes or crampons. Ice axe was used on last 100 feet. After summit, we hiked to Squaw valley ski resort and followed one of the ski lift down hill. About 1/2 miles to the village, Bo magically survived from a big drop off. It was very cool to ride on a patrol's snowmobile for the last 1/2 mile.

Summitted on the second attempt. On our first trip two weeks prior there was too much snow on trail.
I really enjoyed being there and did not want to leave. My mother kept saying that it was getting late and we needed to go back. I did not understand why we had to go back so soon. Took the gondola on the way down.

From OVI
Was staying at the Olympic Village Inn and hiked straight from there via Shirley Lake and up to the summit. Near the ridge had to cross some steep snow in our tennis shoes. Didn't have gloves so our hands nearly froze trying to pull ourselves up. Met up with some friends on top who had felt the need to take the gondola up.
via the Granite Chief chair, made the turns look hard by looking silly the whole way down!

Great Day!
Great morning/early afternoon outing, though the winds were quite strong. Immediately followed by Oktoberfest at Olympic Village and snow flurries in the evening. Keep the white stuff coming!
