Fun!
I've summitted Grays on many occasions, in all seasons, in all conditions. I used it as a training peak for Nepal. I love the valley, the ridge, and the area. It's a bit crowded on summer week ends, but people drawn to mountains are always fun and cool (even if there are a lot of them). It's a great initial peak for beginners, but don't get fooled- watch the weather and don't be on the ridge if there's any electricity! When I was a kid (early 80's), a couple guys made a bivouac just off the summit and were struck by lightning/killed in the middle of the night.

Via Kelso ridge-Torreys
Great hike, very proud of myself for making this climb/hike in 4:20 total (I live at 500 ft. elevation). Great day for this upstate New Yorker to wrap up 4 days in a row of CO 14er bagging (3 days in the San Juans and 1 up here).

"the day after Kelso"
The clutch on my 1993 Tempo was protesting "never again" after the drive up the Stevens Gulch road. Warmed up on Kelso the day before then did Grays and Torreys by the standard route.Mountain goat on Torreys.

Standard route
A beautiful day and a fun hike. We saw the mountain goats and several falcons or hawks (not sure). An EXTREMELY busy trail but I expected that. Gorgeous wildflowers! Went on to Torreys afterwards.
I've climbed this one 5 times so far, on different occasions of course.

Summitted via the Lost Rat - right hand variation. To my surprise the snow was in great shape for so late in the season. It was starting to melt out towards the top though. Great snow climb.

Haliku and I headed over after tagging Torreys via the Dead Dog Couloir. It was a great day and the climbing conditions were good – a little windy, but no legitimate complaints.
