Route Climbed: Grays Peak Trail  Sucess!

First Colorado 14er for my wife and I; we hiked up the easy Grays Peak Trail and managed to get off before a major hail storm. The road going up to the trailhead was virtually unpassable in our Ford Focus, but after filling in the first ditch a bit, we were able to pass; we wouldn't recommend this however.

I finally made a 14er  Sucess!

In September of 2007, I made it up my first 14er. Gray's wasn't that hard to hike. It had some great views. It had a lot of people hiking it. I loved your picture.

1st 14er ... 1st July snowfall, too!  Sucess!

Nasty, nasty weather on the 7th caused me to bail before bagging Torreys, but I did reach the summit of Grays for my first 14er!

1st Co 14er  Sucess!

My first CO 14er. Got altitude sickness as I came from sea level. Amazingly, my brother who also came from sea level didn't feel the effects of altitude. Great hike to acclimatize to.

Nice standard day  Sucess!

Nice day for a summit with a few new Colorado residents. We took the standard Steven's Gulch approach. The three, having been living here for only 2 weeks were surprisingly relentless in their determination.

Windy!!  Sucess!

Base camped the night before on a ridge around 12,000 ft...had to be the windiest spot on the mountain because it was even less windy on the summit! Live and learn...traversed over and got Torrey's as well!

On from Dead Dog  Sucess!

After climbing Torreys via Dead Dog Couloir, I continued on to Grays. Grays was...well, kind of boring...it does have a good view, however. Grays also turned out to be a new elevation record for me.
