Late Start  Sucess!

Got on the trail with 4 others a little late in the day which meant coming down in the dark. Wasn't to bad though and the views were great, mostly undisturbed. Met up with some sort of cat on the way down but scared it off.

Great Winter Hike!  Sucess!

Sumitted at exactly noon on Tuesday. Beautiful weather, temps in the 50s, not a cloud in the sky, and a well-maintained trail!

Sunset hike!  Sucess!

My second time to summit this great peak. Me and two others climbed late afternoon to witness the best sunset I've seen to date. The day was perfect with temps in the 60's and NO wind!

Nice slow hike  Sucess!

My wife and I took our time up the mountain on a beautiful day. Views from the top can't be beat in Texas. It's amazing how far away you can spot the peak from the east, it's easy to see how it became such a landmark.

Don't Mess with Texas  Sucess!

When I worked at Carlsbad Caverns National Park, this was a great place to get in my peak-bagging fixes. I probably hiked up to the summit 5 times. It's a great hike.

The beginning  Sucess!

My girlfriend (wife now) and I camped up in the bowl the previous night and then headed back down to the car for the drive home to ABQ. On the hike down I made the decision that I was going to hike to Guadalupe's summit and then start collecting state HPs. I actually ended up running the trail up and down to beat a storm, but more importantly to make it back home in time for the IA Hawkeye NCAA tourney game. I really enjoyed the time in the park, and hope to get back soon!

Variously Great  Sucess!

This was a hike that had it all - desert sun and spring flowers below, evergreens and icy winds on the way up. The summit view was hard rock and velvet desert floor. I recommend the side trip to Devil's Hall on the way down for those seeking more wonders. Saw an animal there I did not even know existed - later found out it was a ringtail.

Route Climbed: Standard Route  Sucess!

After one night at Pine Springs Campground, we (Hilda, Laurent and me) hiked to the top of Texas with fantastic views and clear skies.
I tried my new Koflach Degre boots and they were comfy. We made it up in 2h 15mins and down 1h 45mins. I was carrying a 60 lb. backpack which slowed me down quite a bit. Good workout!

Round two!  Sucess!

What a beautiful hike...got up at sunrise and hit the trail. First attempt two months before, I just wasn't in good enough shape...now I love my stairmaster.
And what a bonus...just as I arrived at the summit, it snowed (not in the scary way). Comin' back to take a coupla friends up GP on May 19th. This was my first state highpoint...and will be theirs.
