Solo climb of Rucu from Teleferiq'o. A world of difference since the first time I climbed in January, when I only had a week of acclimatization. Now that I've lived in Quito for four months, Rucu was a breeze. Clearest day I've seen in Ecuador, as well! Snapped photos of Quito, Cotopaxi, Antisana, Cayambe, Ilinizas, Ruminahui, Corazon, Guagua and Padre Encantado, and even Chimborazo- 120 miles away.

Rucu with Chris
A warm-up for Chris on basically her second day in Ecuador. The snowy conditions at the summit made for a bit of sketch. Running to make the teleferico was quite the rush.

First Peak On Second Time to Ecuador
Drove to Lloa with Sebastian and hired a 4x4 to get us up the road. They turned around far from the parking area, which made the total elevation gain for the day over 3,000 feet. We got to the summit fairly quickly where we were met with snow and wind. The crater looked amazing with the blowing snow.

First climb over 4000m
Climbed Rucu Pichincha by Teleferiqo normal route. Skipped Paso de la Muerte. Cloudy near summit but fantastic views on the way up! Really feeling the effects of altitude- only 1 week of adjustment.

A Summit in the Clouds
(Guagua Pichincha) We hired a guide in Quito and started the climb from Lloa. The drive was terrible! The car just couldn't make it to the trailhead but the couple extra miles didn't hurt us. There was no view at the summit but the experience was great. Make sure you go to both summits! I am from low altitude and climbed this on my 3rd day in Ecuador without problem.

Rucu
just a great acclimatization hike, pretty close to city.Lots of peoples.
Best ever grilled chicken at the top of teleferico.
Started about 800m below summit on the road between Lloa and the refugio. Very clear morning. Our goal was to go down to the active vents in the crater, but our group was really slow and full of people who I personally thought had no business being there. We got down close to the crater but had to turn around for lack of time. It took our group about 1 hour 45 min to get down 400 meters, and I climbed back up to the rim in about 45 minutes. While waiting for the rest of the group, I went to the summit. I'll try the crater again without people who are very out-of-shape or petrified by heights. It's a beautiful, surreal place, and I would highly recommend not just going to the summit, but going down into the crater also. The weather was clear most of the day, but the clouds rolled in around 14:00.
Met cute Austrian girl on the Teleferico. She decided to turn back near the beginning of the summit block. Had to choose between girl and mountain... Chose mountain.

Climbed a month earlier too. Took some visiting students up to the top. Took us 2.5 hours up, 1.5 down. Clouds past the power pylon but not very windy. It started to snow at the top. Good day.

Fun day
From the Teleferico to the top in 2.5 hours, down in 1 hr. Some wind and low clouds, fun scrambling towards the top and sliding down the sand on the way down. Local dog followed us all the way to the top. Warm-up hike for Cotopaxi.

Cold and Cloudy
Climbed Rucu Pichincha with my host brother on a rare day off from my clinical rotation. Started at 2 pm. It was fogged in, windy, and cold (<30ºF at the summit). Station-to-summit: 2hrs 15min, returned in 1hr 30min.

Climbed Rucu
Climbed the normal route with my wife. 3 hours starting from TelefériQo to the peak, 2 hours back down. Windy and cloudy, but the clouds were high enough to keep the peak visible most of the time. Chilly too. We saw several tourists near the top in shorts and t-shirts. I wonder if they thought it was going to be warm because it's on the equator. A little rain would have made their hike truly miserable.
