Solo C2C. What an epic day. Both peaks were incredible to climb and sperry basin is indeed a special place. Made my own route up each and took standard down.

Sperry TH Out/Back
Started at the Sperry Trailhead at Lake McDonald Lodge. Long, tiring slog uphill through the recent burn of the 2017 Sprague Fire. I'd been on this trail many times previously and hiking through the burned forest afforded a unique experience with new views of the surrounding mountainsides.
Followed the trail to Sperry Glacier. I ran into over a dozen mountain goats near Feather Woman lake. They were blocking the trail and I was waiting for them to move when two large adults (both of which had tracking colors and were marked with spots of paint) began sparring with one another! Needless to say, I detoured around the lake and regained the trail to Comeau Pass.
From the pass, I took the standard route up to the saddle between Gunsight Mountain summit and the false eastern summit. There was one medium angle snow crossing that I had to negotiate before slogging up the loose talus slopes and broken cliffs.
Astounding views. Truly one of the best summit views I've had in all of GNP. I was particularly mesmerized by the views of the entire Livingston Range, Lake Ellen Wilson, and Sperry Glacier Basin.
More or less retraced my off-trail route down to the maintained trail and stomped downhill to my car. Stopped for a well-deserved dip in Akaiyan Lake along the way back.

Approach via Sperry Trail and West Ridge of Edwards Mountain. Ascended both summits via standard route. Always an epic time in the Sperry Glacier Basin!
After ascending Edwards, my son Frank and I descended to Comeau Pass then up the snow slopes on north side of mountain. HUGE cornice on summit. Much easier climb than Edwards.

NE Slope Snow Climb
Staying at Sperry makes this far more enjoyable. Alpine start due to stuff moving on Sperry Glacier the day before, which thwarted our attempt to climb it via the glacier.
Climbed with newcomer who had never done steep snow before, so pitched it out and put her on belay all the way up. Nice glissade down from summitt almost all the way back to Comeau Pass. Rock n roll :))

Logan Pass to Hidden Lakes to Floral Park to Sperry Glacier to NE Slope
This is one of the great ones! A very, very enjoyable ascent taking us from Logan Pass to Hidden Lakes, over the southeast ridge running out of Bearhat Mtn, down into the aptly-named Floral Park, up another ridge, then circumventing the "toe" of Sperry Glacier, then finally ascending the mountain itself. Almost none of the notorious Glacier N.P. scree and loose talus, and then the summit...! Even for a part of the Northern Rockies known for great vistas, this mountain is special! Absolutely amazing! GNP rocks!
Climbed with a small contingent of GMS folk (five of us)--21-mile, 13-hour day, ending with a rather grueling (understatement, that) 9-mile descent down (constantly down!) 6,000+ feet from the summit to Comeau Pass, past the Sperry Chalet, then on to Lake McDonald. Very tired at the end, but what a great, terrific day!

Gunsight is one of the most beautiful places in Glacier National Park. Enjoyed a climb to Sperry Glacier and a stay at Sperry Chalet. Outstanding scenery! Natural Born Hikers
We camped near Sperry Chalet and the next day traversed Edwards Mountain west to east, then climbed Gunsight and returned to our camp. A very nice day out with no backtracking except for a small bit of trail.
This early in the season, the NE Slope was nearly all snow until virtually at the summit.
