Mist Trail/JMT/Cables
Dayhiked it with a full pack with my brother while training for Mount Rainier. This was my third time to the top, though this was my first dayhike from the Valley floor. Always a good one, and so close to the Bay Area. The other 2X were in Sept-89 with my Dad and again in Aug-99 with Maria.

Happy Isles to Mist Trail
Great hike with lots of water, wildlife, vistas, heat, mist more like torrential rain. Do this dude in May or early June for big
waterfall volume. Took us about 10 hours. Take your time and enjoy
all of the above. Lots of novice hikers on the dome, try to be
patient.

Snake Dike
I had hiked up the cable route in October 2003, but Jon and I wanted to give Snake Hike a try. It was a little crowded at the base of the 5th class climbing with one party on pitch one when we arrived and 2 parties coming up as we were waiting to begin. The party ahead of us started simul-climbing when they hit the dike and the parties below us were slower, so soon we felt like we had the place to ourselves. I lead the first pitch and Jon lead the rest because I'm still not brave enough to lead runout stuff (even at 5.2, silly me). It was a little smokey, but still some stellar views.
Have hiked this great stone many time with great friends. Gotta get on Snake Dike some day soon.

I waited to be fit
I wanted to do the Regular route in a single push. Everything started in the Esat Buttress of El Capitan. We were planning for a 12 hour climb and we did it in 6h: we were shocked! Then we thought of doing Free Blast and happened in 6:30h. We said South face Washington's Column on a day and we will be ready for Half Dome.
The Regular took us 12h. This paved the way for The Nose in a single push.

Beat the crowds and chanced the snow. Both the hike in (and out) and the climb were great! Especially nice since there were only a handful of other people around!

Snake Dike
Got up before dawn to start hiking. Damien and I were the first team off the deck around (I think) 10 am. Once on the dike itself I missed the turn that Supertopo tells you not to miss and followed the obvious but wrong line until I got to a loose, skinny bolt and realized my mistake. Back on route, I found the climbing a little tedious, more like a steep hike actualy, but the view was awesome. At the last belay, I found a nice BD cam that looked like fixed gear but slid right out. Sweet. There were at least half a dozen ropes behind us on the route and half of them must have topped out after dark. We were back in the valley by 9 pm. A fun day.
Been up the cables a couple of times, plan to do Snake Dike soon. A friend of ours introduced us to Half Dome in October 2003 when we had just moved to California. He said it would be something like his 10th time hiking to the top. I couldn't ever imagine doing something like that 10 times when there's so much else to do. But now I know why. Half Dome, despite the crowds, is awesome.
Did this in the early 80's, then again with a YMCA group of kids (of which my son and nephew were a part) a few years ago. Just a spectacular now as then.
Route Climbed: standard trail w/ cables Date Climbed: July 2001
Crazy how many people climb this mountain. The cables can be very dangerous yet all types and abilities do it. The MOST people I have ever seen hiking a mountain with me that day: hundreds! Miserable 100 degree F day, long, blah trail. Very much appreciated water at the 2 falls. Fun but careful climbing up the 45 degree slab slope for 400 feet. Good views from top. Lots of people sun tanning.
