A very nice hike with an amazing view at the top. The last few hundred feet were extreme. Using cables and metal rods for help. Very fun. Can't wait to do it again. You get to see allot of the park around you as well.
climbed Snake Dike back in June of 07. great climb. and great views

Day hike with our Scout Troop
Our group of about 30 Boy Scouts and adults started at 5 am in hopes of avoiding the crowds. Cables not to crowded on the way up but on the way down, was I5 in downtown LA at rush hour. My 6th time on the summit, 3rd time as a day hike.

My first big day hike
The first hike I ever did was up Half Dome - been there three times after that. Highly recommend going off season when the cables are DOWN. What a rush!

Cable Route
The cables weren't nearly as bad as they looked. Patch of snow on the summit made cooling off great!

Via Cable Route
Day tripping from a long weekend in San Francisco en route back to San Diergo. Base camped near the Lodge (Camp 4) and took the route via Happy Isles. The Cables were the best part of the whole hike, thank god for the safety harness I brought...would love to do it again when snow is in full effect.

labor day weekend
this was my 2nd time up, the first being with scouts many years before. I brought my girlfriend and we left the valley around 4am, getting a nice start to ensure some solitude on the way up. We ended up being the earliest to the top but then had to pass the masses on the way down--some people make the passing on the cables exciting.

cables down - unforgettable outing
My wife and I hiked up from the valley. When we got to the shoulder, we saw the cables were laying down for the winter season and the climb looked daunting. We about turned around when a lady at least 60 years old scurried down the cables and told us it was not as hard as it looked. With that, we each straddled a cable and pulled ourselves up. Even with the cables down, there were dozens of people on top. We spent a long time atop the iconic monolith soaking in the setting. We stumbled down the trail exhausted, in the dark, without lamps and very happy.
Went up on a weekday w/ my wife and Ben (6m old son) and our friends Megan (8m pregnant) and Jon. Should have seen the looks we got on the cables lugging up Ben. Crowds not too bad.

no sweat
Beautiful day to climb Half Dome. The climb up took 3.5 hours starting at Curry Village. Those cables at the end are no joke.
Came up the easy side of Half Dome (well, harder than taking a chopper to the top, I s'pose), back in the summer of '92. Part of a farewell-to-the-US three-day hike from Tuolomne Meadows I did with my ex.

Cables
A long, crowded hike, but well worth it. It was funny to see what some people were wearing for a 16 mile hike. Some people definitely were not prepared. Bring a water filter! The cables were incredibly crowded so give yourself some extra time if you're doing this on the weekend.
