Awesome views
Awesome views - beautiful basin - driving to and from Lake City took as long as the entire hike!
Beautiful hike through American Basin. Had the summit to ourselves for a few minutes. On the descent, went over and climbed Pt. 13,688 to get another perspective of Handies. Nice hike on a gorgeous morning!

Route Climbed: American Basin
Left at 4:30 AM so we could shoot sunset at Sloan Lake (see picture to be posted shortly in image gallery). Beautiful morning. Great hike to the top from Sloan Lake. Enjoyed the clear view (except for a fire in the Uncompaghre Wilderness) from the top for nearly an hour. Tundra in full bloom near the top. First, but not our last, 14er!

Route Climbed: Grizzley Gulch
Traversed the ridge over to Whitecross Mt. The changing rock on the way over to Whitecross was fascinating. If I were a marmot, I think this would be a great basin to live in!

Gotta Love the San Juans
Slogged up the grizzly gulch since we were camped there after tackling Redcloud and Sunshine the day before. Descended the American Basin. What a beautiful place!
