You've been busy lately

Lots of pages on the kinds of peaks I like-- the less-visited, less-celebrated gems. I get so bored with all the yawner pictures I see here of the Cascade volcanoes, so it's nice to see another, more interesting face of Washington.

Thanks for the vote and the compliments, Bob. I just recently had some old slides scanned, and as I do, I'm then able to contribute those pictures to the site. I literally have thousands, so it's been tough deciding which ones to do first. Years 1988-2001 are still only on slides. This is a nice area. I like the less well-known areas too. Thanks again...Tom

Regarding Rangers

To say that the information they provided us was out of date would be an understatement. To be more cynical, they seemed determined to keep us out of the area, claiming snowcover and conditions were much worse than they actually were.

I have consistently had the same experience. Conditions reports 30 to 60 days old. Foreboding accounts of woes and danger. While planning my second ascent of Three Finger a ranger told me, "The lookout is locked and the ladders are broken. Trust me, you won't make it." All lies. After that exchange, I don't call rangers for information anymore.
