"Got tight last night on absinthe and did knife tricks. Great success shooting the knife into the piano. The woodworms are so bad and eat hell out of all furniture that you can always claim the woodworms did it."

Great hike, great mid week runHeart Mtn. was my 7 th summit of my life. Since 1993 have been up it about 6 or 8 times, usually a mid week leg workout, have been up to the summit and back to the roadside parking in less than 1.5 hours.

Great all-year scrambleThis is another go-to scramble for Calgarians. The first summit is easily done all year, but you'll need snow shoes to do the circuit in winter or early spring/late fall.

Second time luckyDid the horseshoe with Ayla. Now I really know where Grant Macewen Peak is!
On the horseshoe just past GM Peak, the north-facing hill still has a sizeable snowdrift on it. All the hikers had fun on the glissade.
If you want to do the loop, I recommend that you park at the Quaite Trail. You'll hike the same distance, but the flat-land part will be nicer.

Winter hikeOn the route up the main Heart, maybe half of the trail is covered with snowdrifts, so occasionally I had to take the time for route-finding. On the other hand, the snow was easier to walk on than scree.
As a bonus, with a lot of the "easier" steps buried, I scrambled a lot of the missing trail options. I enjoyed the hands-on.
I got to the second summit of the horsehoe ridge, when I ran out of time. Because this was my first time here, and I was solo, I decided to go back rather than explore. But stumbling down the scree on the main route wasn't fun -- I should have continued around the horseshoe.
The funniest thing was that I always thought that the Heart was the horseshoe loop, so the north side of the Heart must be Grant MacEwan. Boy, was I wrong!
Be sure to look up "Grant MacEwan Peak", here in SummitPost.

Good short dayConvinced my son to leave the computer and join me for a short scramble. He enjoyed the short climbing sections. Could not do the whole traverse due to time. But a good December 2nd outing.

Full Traverse Around the HorseshoeThe highest point beyond Heart Mountain is now named Mount MacEwan, so I guess this counts as bagging dual summits (barely)!

Traverse w/Twin Towers ExtensionI never was much interested in climbing this mountain...and now I've done it twice! Good fun in a little peak, the full traverse is recommended.
