After attending my GF's graduation in Stafford we drove straight up to the Lakes and this was one of the mountains we climbed. Made a day of it by traversing the full lenght of the ridge and then walking back to the car along the valley floor. Had excellent weather and enjoyed some fantastic views.

Loads of times
Done this one loads of times from all different directions. Great mountain with some good ascents including some excellent winter gullies. Seen Alan Hinkes up here too!

One of my Firsts
This was great fun, one of my first summits ever and first out of the US. Very fun climbing with 'postcard' views. The folks in the area and on the climb were some of the friendliest people I've met traveling.

Many times, always different
Just up this weekend for the most recent time. Very strong winds on the top, with a fun ice step above Squirrel Edge (with bucket steps).

You can always guarantee a good day on Helvellyn
This was one of my very first mountains I ever climbed and I still remember it to this day, drizzle with the cloud base just sweeping over the hole in the wall, clambered over striding edge, with a bit of help at the end. That won me over for ever. Since then Helvellyn is my second most climbed peak, in sun, rain, snow hail, blizzards, hurricanes, the usual weather for the lakes, but come what may whatever the weather whichever the route, you'll always have a good days climb/hike/ramble on Helvellyn! Oh and MountainManJohn see you up there again no doubt!
Not sure but think its the best. Last went to Helvellyn in Jan. Great winter route Striding Edge first, up onto the top, met Alan Hinkes, played around and came down Swirrel. Have done the mountain many times in all weathers......always great to be there. It seems to get the most snow too.

On Striding EdgeThis was the first mountain I climbed in the Lake District. Probably my favourite too, the Striding Edge path is spectacular.
