DONE after 2 days in bed with tonsilitis and the most horrific climbing nightmare the night before. Oh and storms. Grrrrr! I should say done except for the summit block. Storm came in fast. Also hiked Mt. Irving Hale the night before.
Great hike into some beautiful country. The summit log on Hiamovi hadn't been signed since Sep. 2005 and the one on the Tower had only two entries since Sep. 2005 and one of those was the same day as me. My original plan was to climb Irving Hale and Hiamovi while doing some recon for the Buttress on the Tower. I made great time up Hale and Hiamovi (about 3hrs) and found myself looking at the Tower with Bluebird skies. I decided to go ahead and I'm glad I did. A++ for quality and fun. Made the RT for all three in just under 6 hrs.

A nice easy day amongst fantastic scenery and in absolute solitude. Just what I needed after more then a week at sea level outside of Colorado. I love the Indian Peaks. The more I experience the region the more nostalgic and warm each additional trip feels. The west side is realy becoming comfortable to me. Hiamovi is an easy fun mountain. Mount Irving Hale is an ideal lookout with a very interesting east side. The effect of differential glacion could not be better illustrated then in the northern IPW. The west slopes are gentle while the east faces are anything but. Along were my two adventure starved dogs, Raymond and Sopris. Jon

Comepleting the 13 mile RT was difficult after I had been throwing up all night prior. I wasn't about to miss out on a great hike in the IPW with great company (Colonapyat) and perfect weather. Did I mention perfect weather, we didn't see a cloud from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. I think we would have tried for the Tower if I hadn't been feeling so weak, maybe next time.
