From Noble Lake  Sucess!

From Ebbets Pass/Noble Lake

Missed one thunderstorm that blew in through Sonora Pass before heading east towards Bridgeport. Got caught in the 2nd as I was hiking back up out of Noble Canyon. Freezing rain that gradually became a downpour.

OGUL Peak #53, 10 to go.

Pics commentary are here.

Fun in July  Sucess!

Climbed via the south west ridge. Still lots of snow in the area, used crampons in the early morning to help negotiate frozen snow fields. Great climb.

SW Ridge  Sucess!

Snow covered the trail nearly entire way, making routefinding rather difficult. We were on PCT for a total of ~15 minutes. Amazing views once on ridge. Only spent 5 minutes on summit with Tang as we were pressed for time.

Hiked With Doug Mantle  Sucess!

I left the PCT parking area at 7 am. About half way I met up with another guy and we ended up climbing together. I asked what other area peaks he has climbed and he said many. I asked about his favorite and his response was well I've hiked the 7 summits. His name was Doug Mantle. Very nice guy, what a great day!

Southwest Ridge  Sucess!

Great hike up the southwest ridge, the day after Hawkins/Patterson and before Mokelumne. Good time of year for this area.

a great peak  Sucess!

It was in the early 1990's when I lived in Auburn that I hiked up Highland Peak. The hike is awesome, going past Noble Lake and then up the ridge was a great experience. I remember the ridge as being very fun with spectacular views all around. I fun experience to remember. I went fishing at one of the lakes near the pass after the hike and I remember having bats fly by and hit my fishing line making me think I was getting bites.

Great little peak.  Sucess!

Sierra thunderstorms kept us from climbing in the Palisades so we went local and hit Highland Peak insread. We climbed the Southwest Ridge. There was still a lot of snow and it rained quite a bit during the climb so it made for an adventurous day.

Came up short

My wife and son (6m old) went up. Didn't summit due to loose rock about 10,500---made us nervous having son in backpack up there.

Great day with new snow  Sucess!

Great dayhike with the new snowfall enhancing pictures and aiding travel over scree. Ran out of time for the traverse to Silver.

SW ridge  Sucess!

Tougher than I thought it would be, but I was in early season conditions . . . in August, booo. Never been to Ebbetts Pass before, and really liked the surroundings. Secluded for a trans-Sierra pass.

Southwest Ridge  Sucess!

Nice early morning climb. Spectacular wildflowers. Unfortunately the views weren't great because of haze and smoke. 6h car to car.

1st Mountain  Sucess!

Thank you Peter and Jason.
I have been to the mountain tops before,
but I was always on my way to somewhere else.
Now I have summited. Now I am a climber of mountains.

Route Climbed: Southwest Ridge  Sucess!

My first real scramble. And it was FUN! Climbed with my buddy's PJ and Peter. Made it to the top by 11:30 am and we decided to pass on the Silver Peak traverse. But we made it back to camp by 2 and played cards for the rest of the afternoon. Perfect day of climbing.

Southwest Ridge  Sucess!

Dustin and I did a cross-country treck from Ebbits pass PCT trailhead to the southwest ridge of Highland. I had to wade through noble creek on the way back as we crossed the stream lower in the canyon. Perfect day.

Had a late start. Weather was perfect though. Not one cloud all day. Was very warm too. Even at the summit, I never needed a jacket. Views were amazing.

Route Climbed: Southwest Ridge Date Climbed: August 20, 2005  Sucess!

Did a shuttle hike from the Ebbetts Pass trailhead to the Noble Canyon trailhead. After reaching the PCT, we immediately headed off-trail up the ridge to Tryon Peak, then back to the PCT, to Noble Lake, up the SW ridge to Peak 10824 and Highland Peak then on to Silver Peak. We returned to the saddle between Silver and Highland and decended a ridge to the Noble Canyon trail back to our second car. The return was mostly in darkness due to a leisurely morning.

Route Climbed: SW Ridge Date Climbed: July 11, 2004  Sucess!

A bit beat after Merriam/Royce/Julius Caesar the day before, I headed up to Ebbetts Pass for an easier outing. July is a nice time of year to visit the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness--the flowers were out in bloom and patches of snow still adorned the normally barren peaks.
