I set out from Orbey, walked up to Lac Blanc, spent the night there, and continued next morning along the fantastic Route des CrĂȘtes to the top of Hohneck. Went down via Le Schweisel-Metzeral.

HOHNECK
First, I have to say, that doing the Sentier des Roches in winter, is totally mad, crazy ! I'm bringing here an answer to sjarelkwint, who has done this mountain path in winter, with snow and ice ! It's too dangerous, you're unconscious in your head ... You have better to wait, when the snow will disappear ... I prefer to preserve my body and not to be dead, between the ravines, the rocks and the trees ! But I must recognize, that the summit of the Hohneck exceptionnal is ...From thereover, is the panorama totally circular, unical !

Hohneck in winter
Pretty fun weekend trip from Belgium. Could have used more snow. Will most likely take an extra 2 hours in the car to reach the alps next time.

From Col de La Schlucht
Very nice hike and excellent views over the Rhine valley towards Black Forest and Alps (even Mt Blanc). We also walked the Sentiers des Roches the next day and visited all of the lakes. Walk with the Flemish Natuurvrienden-Bergstijgers.

I have climbed personally all the routes describred on the Hohnek page. I don't remember how many times I summited the Hohneck. 10 ?, 20 ?. I prefer to do it in spring, when the last snowfields still cover the crests. At the early morning of this first may, I was absolutely alone. Only three chamois kept me compagny on the summit.
