Halo Ridge
Did the entire Notch>Halo>Holy Cross cirque. Some snow on the talus, made things a bit more difficult. Long day.

Long day
Halo Ridge is some of the longest class-2 and 3 scrambling done in a day. Great views of Holy Cross and Bowl of Tears though!!
Climbed with Stephanie, Keith & Colleen.

Halo Ridge
It was my third time on Halo Ridge, but I went over to 13,768 instead of Mount of the Holy Cross. I spent two nights in the Notch shelter acclimatizing before the trip to Peru.
The weather didn't look so good starting out but it held. Came from Notch Mtn shelter and carried on to MotHC.

13831
Went over and got 13831 before climbing Holy Cross via the standard route. On 7-7-07 we returned to Holy Cross. This time we did Holy Cross first and then 13831. We tried skirting Holy Cross some on the way back. The grain of the mountain can make this harder than regaining some elevation on the way past Holy Cross.

Halo Ridge route
The only people we met on the Halo Ridge route to Mount of the Holy Cross was at Holy Cross Ridge, 13,831. Beautiful, but long day.
Climbed PT 13768 and Whitney Peak from Seven Sisters Lakes/Fall Creek Pass. Finished up the Mt of The Holy Cross quad with these two.

halo not so good for dogs and ankles
I sure liked the portion of the trip from Half Moon TH to the summit of Holy Cross, but I stopped having fun on the Halo Ridge. The footing is pretty bad, on loose, often large talus. Fell down a few times when rocks came loose. My 40-lb, two foot tall dog really didn't like contouring on the rocks, and that put a damper on the day; if my baby isn't happy, I'm not happy!

Halo Ridge
Wasn't even aware this peak had a name till after the climb. It is pretty, offering nice views of HC and the surroundings.

A lot of fun! This mountain seemed like de ja vu after Mount of the Holy Cross; not only do they have nearly the same name, but the climbs are very much alike. Very enjoyable day in the mountains!

This was the year the Colorado Rockies had so much snow, and we were in deep snow much of the way on this climb. Ice ax saved my life on steep ridge at one point. Climbed with Aaron. Attempted it a week earlier with party of four but were turned back by the conditions.

Great hike / climb. I slept in the Notch Mountain Shelter to shorten the summit day. I started the morning out by climbing both summits of Notch Mountain. I couldn’t seem to find the easier routes to get me past the notch between the summits. I descended and ascended a ramp-gully on the cliff with a low-end class five move at the top. The exposure made things interesting! While I was on the ridge I was carrying almost a full load of backpacking gear (minus the tent), too much weight to carry along the Halo Ridge! If you do this route, really strip down your gear.
