With Michelle. We chose the East Ridge from Rainbow TH to avoid crowds and because it is shorter than WR by 3 miles. Getting on the ridge is straightforward. Follow the cairns to get on the ridge before the RB trail you are on takes you there. a climbers trail, easily followed, exists on the ridge proper. It dumps you out at a steep forested hillside. From there, do your best. We used game trails to switch it back until treeline. Once at treeline, it is a slog to gain a false summit at 13300 (don't hold me too that). Not too bad, just boring because the angle is pretty consistent. And the massive ridge you are on blocks the views until you pop out on top of the false summit and ridge up to the summit. The climb is really only visibly awesome from there on (with just 800 vert remaining). Summit ridge is fun. Basically, I am saying that the West Ridge by the lakes is likely way more scenic. We descended the ER due to wanting to avoid being annihilated by a system moving in. Enjoy!
The hike up to the ridge was a bit longer then I expected. Once I hit the ridge I got a bug up my butt and took off fast. Picked the harder (class 3) lines to make it more fun.

Scenic de Cristo
8.5hrs of incredibly scenic hiking on this longest-day-of-year! The rocky 4WD rough road to the trailhead doesn't represent the well-maintained trail up to summit!

Nothing humble about this one!
So far the most beautiful CO 14er trail I have been on. Well maintained, wildflowers, gorgeous views, bluebird sky, gentle breeze, frisky marmots... Let summer begin! (and only a few boot-path laden snowpatches to get through)

Windy sunrise climb
Quick climb of Humboldt Peak before breakfast at Lower South Colony Lake, after climbing the Crestones the day before. Cold and windy but there was a great sunrise at the top!

West Ridge
Beautiful fall hike. Nice dusting of snow on the Crestones.
Hiked to the top from camp at the lower lake in the dark. Watched the sunrise. Unfortunately, clouds ruined my hopes of catching the Crestones ablaze in alpenglow. I spent an hour and a half on the summit, and was completely alone.
Hiked up to catch the sunrise on the summit. Beautiful view of the Crestones all lit up in orange and red.

double summit
Did Humboldt before sunset after climbing Crestone peak in the morning and later waiting out a few afternoon rain showers. It was peak #2 of 20 of my trip. Nice views of neighboring peaks.

Standard Route. Great climb. Snowed 2' in 24 hours. Summitted in a whiteout & dug a cave at the lower lake to dry out. The log shows two guys coming up the SE ridge the day before. Met a few spring breakers on their way in, otherwise secluded. I love winter...
