HP #25  Sucess!

Very windy and quite cool. I've never seen clouds move this fast, blue sky to white out and back and forth, trees falling in forest made me nervous. However full success happy to get this peak in during family vacation in Sedona.

6th summit  Sucess!

Set up a shuttle at weatherford/snowbowl. Started at Snowbowl, camped around saddle, summited at around 7 PM. Woke up and went down weatherford. First overnighter on the peaks!

HP #9  Sucess!

Tons of people on this saturday morning. Still enjoyed this hike though. Not the hardest, but still a fairly long trail (9.6 miles). Storm rolled in on way down, bit of small hail as well. Flagstaff is a cool town, and very friendly people.

Solo climb  Sucess!

Solo climb on Humphrey's Trail. Great trail and a relatively easy hike. Did not spend too much time on the summit due to an impending storm. Began to rain, hail, and lightning as soon as I made it below tree line from the saddle. Start this hike early in morning during monsoon season.

Highpoint #39  Sucess!

Marginally better conditions than last year when thunder, lighning and hail assailed us. Today was just rain and, above the rain, zero visibility. Missed the trail from the saddle, but just followed the south ridge. Now to warm up!

lucky eleven  Sucess!

The best day of a great week of hiking. The mountain is impressive from the highway south of Flagstaff and the drive up to the trailhead is cool too, I saw three mule deer. The total hike took my brother and I about five hours. The summit was empty when we got there but quickly got crowded so we went back to the saddle for our snack. Awesome weather and my first western high point.

State HP #38  Sucess!

Hiked up with my wife who is almost 7 months pregnant. She really impressed me. Lots of annoying insects at the summit so we didn't spend much time up there.

Perfect Climbing Day!  Sucess!

Started at 630 am and made the summit with my dog, Eolus, at around 930. I was the first to the top today. It was pretty windy and cold, and the bugs were around, but weren't that bad. Weather was gorgeous...a few fleeting clouds, but otherwise brilliant. Wonderful view to complement that of any 14er in Colorado. No snow on the trail...only snow I saw was a small batch in the east bowl just below the saddle. Wanted to climb Agassiz, but I rolled my ankle on the way down from the summit to the saddle. Easier mountain to climb, but plenty of opportunities for sprained ankles. Saw about 30-40 people on the way up as I was descending....should have all made it....

Humphreys via Humphreys Trail  Sucess!

Great non-technical solo hike. Started at 6:35 AM and hit saddle by approximately 9:20. Summitted around 10:15 and back at car by 1:05 PM without pushing hard. Hit continuous pockets of snow in the trees starting around 10,300 but snowfree from saddle to summit. Snowshoes/crampons/microspikes not needed at all. There was wind on ridgeline traverse but not extraordinary that day versus other high mountain hikes/climbs. Fourth person on summit that day after two very early risers and a fast hiker who passed me on the saddle. Only some very minor postholing (4-5 times) on way down as snow warmed up. Would recommend hiking boots until snow is gone. Passed approximately 20 hikers during my descent -- of which I would guess only about half probably made the summit.

From Arizona Snowbowl via regular trail  Sucess!

Fabulous views from the top, but couldn't enjoy them for too long as the traditional thunderstorm rolled in. Had to deal with some hail descending the ridge, along with hordes of people pushing on for the summit. 3rd state highpoint: check.

Fun with the Cuz  Sucess!

Perfect day for this accent. Enough of a cool breeze and wind to make the hike enjoyable and a little rain off and on to help keep me cool. :)

Warm February Day  Sucess!

One report I saw was of someone who did the summit 2011 in Feb. For anyone who is interested in a winter summit and is more of an avid hiker than hardcore mountaineer I would say consider the recent precipitation, temperature and bringing a good dose of common sense with you. If it has been warm with little/no snow, a winter summit is very reasonable. It was still very cold and windy at the summit, so be prepared. I used Yak Trax and found them critical for my summit. Great hike. My first winter alpine summit. Thanks to the REI guy in Phoenix to recommend the Yak Trax as well as for suggesting hitting up Diablo Burger after. Yum!

bugs  Sucess!

great weather, great hike, millions of bugs forced us off the summit down quite a ways before we could sit and eat. Wish there was 60mph winds to blow to bugs off! counted about 275 people that signed in the trail register at the bottom this day.

A nice hike up, but the lightning on the way down was crazy! The ridge buzzed like an electrical plant.
