summer friday
Was I successful sort of. While I certainly hiked hunter my plans for Leavit peak as well were dashed when I couldn't find trail after a few steps so now I must come back. Anyways did the full 8.2 mile hunter loop trail. Only saw a couple folks. Quiet and lovely hike in the woods.

November Overnight
Hiked up for an overnight trip while the weather was beautiful in the mid-November. We stayed at the Devils Acre Lean-to after summiting. I know that this was an easy day trip of a mere few hours but I needed some time in the woods listening to the forest speak as I sleep.
Nice quick easy hike up on a beautiful day. Not too terribly steep, and some good views from the top of the fire tower!

Good workout!
Climbed Becker up & down four times in a row last summer. Probably could've done five but didn't want to stress.
Couldn't get even one of the so-called 'extreme hikers' meetup group to come.

Rusk, Hunter, Leavitt's loop
20F at the start! Warming to about 35F on the summits. Sun was shining most of the day until the clouds rolled in for the last 2 hours. Rusk Mountain was the highlight of the trip: loved it! Took about 7 hours total for all 3 peaks, round trip.

steep but short
Eighty minutes to the top and sixty back down, on a windy and rainy day via the Becker Hollow Trail. I didn't climb to the top of the fire tower: the wind made it sway alarmingly. At the bottom it began to pour, so I escaped to town, ate lunch, and then climbed Plateau Mountain next.

Start of a DP trip
Hiked up via Becker Hollow, then camped at Devil's Acre lean-to. Short first day to a Devil's Path "flip-flop".

becker hollow trail
When I read this was one of the toughest trails in the catskills I was skeptical with it only being a little over 2 miles. Im now a believer though, trail is relentlessly steep and only gets steeper as you go. Good hike, great snow conditions. Well over a foot of snow on the summit. Feel bad for the group of guys we passed trying this without crampons.
My dog and I made it half way to the summit on Devils Path before a big thunder storm decided to roll in! Not a nice way to decend a rugged rocky trail with a dog in tow! I took a nasty spill on some rocks and my dog and I looked like drowned rats by the time we got back to the truck. We will deffinately have to try again soon for the summit:)

Race to summit
While driving from the capital district to NYC, I decided to make a quick climb of Hunter Mountain. I took the Becker Hollow trail and was able to make the summit in an hour and then back down in 40 minutes. Alternating drizzle and rain the whole time and the summit was completely clouded in.

Route Climbed: Beckers Hollow Trail
Went up Becker Hollow - good and steep if you want a nice workout - and ate lunch at the top. Nice views from the fire tower. Headed down to Devils Path and over to Southwest Hunter before heading out Devils Path. 102 of 115.

Tough start
Climbed on Valentine's Day with my wife. Started at Notch Lake and climbed Devil's Path. Tough start with all the steep ice in the beginning but it leveled out. Came down Becker Hollow Trail and enjoyed some sparkling wine on the way down.

via Becker Hollow
Fast, steep climb. High wind 3500' and above. Too scared to climb fire tower more than a couple landings. It sways in the wind.

Becker Hollow
Steep trail up, great views from the tower and summit ledge.
Great hike. Nice sunny day. First climb since tearing MCL in left knee in March of 07 and quitting smoking (after 15 years!) 2 weeks before. Met a ranger in the fire tower and he was awesome.

Becker HollowProbably the most uneventful Devil's Path mountain, but a good workout in the woods, nonetheless!
