Route Climbed: North Ridge Date Climbed: 10 July 2005
Be sure to stay right at all turns as you drive the 4WD trail from Winthrop. Ascent from 4WD closure. Dry all the way to the top. Amazing views of Ice Mtn -- there's a tantalizing couliour leading to the tippy-top over there....
Route Climbed: North Ridge Date Climbed: July 4, 2005
I started out from Winfield on the North Ridge route (route 12.2 in Roach's guidebook), but instead of going east into Lulu Gulch, I continued south into the Banker Mine drainage, for my Trails Illustrated map shows a primitive trail continuing on to the main Huron Peak trail. What a mistake! The jeep trail peters out, so I had to climb directly up the hill and over to Browns Peak. Then I traversed over to Huron and then headed back down via the standard route. It was a very tiring day, but what the hell, it builds character and all that.
Route Climbed: Northwest Slopes Date Climbed: 19 Jun 2005
Started from the 4WD closure - took only 1hr 40min to make the summit. Mostly snow free above treeline, although there is a long crossing of a snowfield that softens up quite a bit during the day. Got to do a nice glissade down one of the upper snowfields though -that was a lot of fun! The Apostles looked stunning (and very snow - covered!)
Route Climbed: North Ridge Browns-Huron Traverse...sort of Date Climbed: June 12, 2005
In near white out conditions, we somehow (and don't ask me how) ended up making a big arc around the other side of Brown's (ON a ridge, explain that one) and ended up summitting another 13er. The other 13er was similar in height as Brown's so, we shrugged, called it good, and headed over to Huron. Then in the still near white-out conditions, with a few high winds thrown in, we summitted Huron. Views were nonexistent, but it was still pretty awesome. Snowed most of the way down, saw an elk and a few other forest creatures. All in all a great day,...confusing, but a great day!
Route Climbed: Northwest Slopes From Clear Creek 4x4 Date Climbed: 8/21/04
Easy climb....summited in two hours

Route Climbed: North Ridge: Browns-Huron Traverse Date Climbed: May 29, 2005
Oops! Be sure you know your directions when looking at pictures of mountains so as to summit the right one first...
While taking a "breather" just above the saddle between Huron & Browns (next to Huron), I noticed Roache's picture of Huron... and then thought I was next to Brown's.... I didn't really care to "bag" Brown's, so I headed over to what I thought was Huron.... Yeah, I bagged Brown's, then headed BACK over to bag Huron (Huron's summit can not be seen until you reach the top). Oh well! 2 summit's in a day, not half bad.
Route Climbed: Winfield/NorthFace Date Climbed: June 2002
Great climb. Fast pace, started in late afternoon. One of the closest lightening situations I've been in. Kind of thought the thunderstorms weren't gonna come that day, since I had blue sky at 3:30pm when I started! Beautiful country.
Route Climbed: Northwest Slopes Date Climbed: September 10, 1983
In the days before a true west slope trail, we followed the old jeep trail from Winfield up to the gully on the NW ridge of Browns Peak. We then climbed this gully to where the two ridges merge and then to Brown's summit. We followed the ridge south to Huron's summit. On the descent, we climbed back over Browns Peak, but then continued to the saddle just north of it. We then turned left, descending on tundra into Lulu Gulch, and then to another jeep trail to the cars at Winfield.
Route Climbed: Northwest Slopes Date Climbed: August 22, 2000
Started from the South Winfield 4WD trailhead, and did this route in under 5 hours. The CFI trail was very easy - you could have hiked this one with your hands in your pockets the whole way. We did encounter a few massive cairns along the way which seemed like overkill.
Route Climbed: North Ridge: Browns-Huron Traverse Date Climbed: September 20, 2004
My 13th Fourteener. Great tree color etc. in the valleys, but caught in a total whiteout on the summit with no view whatsoever. Two hours later, the sky cleared, but I was already back down at the South Winfield Trailhead. Who says it pays to start early??? :-)
Route Climbed: Lulu Gulch/North Ridge Date Climbed: July 2004
This was definitely a climb that me and my friends winged. We set out for a nice hike in the mountains near Winfield and wound up on top of Browns Peak, looked at a map, and realized that Huron Peak was right there. So we went over and climbed it, too. Great weather and a hell of a fun day!
