So that is . . .. . . what it looks like during the day. We did it at 01:15, with no moon and only headlamp light. We did have two full 200-foot ropes, so at least we could do the rappel double-strand, instead of single. The numerous rappels with sandy rope had cut through a significant part of two carabiners, so this last long one made me nervous.

Re: So that is . . .1:15 in the morning? were you guys partying along the way? Zach had to be at work at 4:00 in the afternoon or something crazy like that, so no time to smell the roses on this trip as I recall....cheers

Re: So that is . . .It is safe to assume that there is a big difference in pothole water levels between June and September. We spent a lot of time dealing with pothole escapes. And we also did the full canyon, which added extra time, before we even began the second half.

Re: So that is . . .I am not much on Cayoneering as I think you know, did Imlay and Heaps just to get more intimate with Zion I guess. Both of their last rappels were interesting....what I remember about Imlay though was the 1000 folks I had to pass to get the hell out of the lower narrows....felt like some NYC street situation, I was not thrilled to say the least. Cheers to Jr., looks like fun...my grandson is 7 months and at that fun stage. He loves being hauled around and is quite active. Coming out in Oct for a week, hope to take him on a few hikes like you have been doing.

Re: So that is . . .We saw nobody else in the canyon all day (and night). And we saw nobody on the approach and after either. So at least we didn't have to wait for other parties ahead of us. But it was definitely quite lonely and cold in the final, lower, deep section of potholes. We knew we were close in distance to the end at the Virgin River, but we did not have any idea the last 1/3 mile would take 5 hours. None of us had been in Imlay before, so we did not know how many keepers were ahead of us. What a long night that was.
I've had enough 22-hour canyons for this week. My body is tired, my hands are sore, and my fingerprints are almost worn off from sandstone and ropes. I think I will do some class-1 and 2 stuff with DayHikerJr in the next week, so I can recover from Imlay's adventure. I want to take him through a technical slot also, but I think I will start with something short and with a "3" rating.
