SE ridge
Awesome mountain. Took longer than expected. Up the SE ridge (class 3), down what we think is the "normal" route into Palm Canyon. Climbed with Tom

What a day!!
Climbed up from Borrego Palms Canyon. Did not go far enough into the canyon. Took the wrong gully up and climbed pretty much straight up from the west to the peak. Great climbing though!! Class 3 with some Class 4 sprinkled in!! Descended northwest to the saddle, took a gully back down and then followed the Canyon back to the TH. The place was packed when I got back to the first palms stand!! What a day!! Tough but beautiful!!My pictures from Indianhead and Borrego Palms Canyon

Tough Climb
Tough, but fun day of scrambling. Went up DPS route A, down DPS route B. Should have started earlier, I ended up walking down the canyon by headlamp.

Spicy downclimb into the canyon!
Absolutely killer day! Lots of water flowing down the canyon and the demise of the first palm oasis from flash floods has been overexaggerated. Left the canyon just short of the north trib. to the pass at 3200' and then rather enjoyed the scramble along the western ridge to the summit. Had a few spicy moments on the way down along the canyon wall. Class 3/4 on crappy rock with cacti tentacles waiting can make you pucker!

Beauty and The Beasts
While the rest of California was getting unstable weather, my beautiful wife Deb and I enjoyed clear desert skies and loads of fun scrambling. We had hoped to find some 5th class along the ridge but it never materialized. We did, however, encounter a fun 15' dihedral (finger crack in a corner....perhaps 5.5) on the SE Rib, before intercepting the South Ridge. We decended via the gully just to the east of the summit. Our treat for the day...... runninng into 9 Bighorn Sheep, one of which let us oogle it from 20 yards.
Note to environmentalists: No Bighorn Sheep were sneezed on, molested, spoken to, shook hooves with, butted heads, or any other social engagements. :P

Happy Veteran's Day Darling!
Dreamy Hubby and I escaped the rain and headed to Anza-Borrego to trapse up Indianhead on a warm and humid day. I found nothing Class 5 on the South Ridge except the dihedral that Dave climbed twice for pictures. The Big Horn Sheep were really neat to see!
Great views from the top. Saw a red diamondback rattler - the buzzing is LOT louder than you expect. Gave him a W-I-D-E berth.

First Mountain I Attempted In The West
Was concerned about returning to the canyon floor before dark so turned around near the saddle. Was fortunate enough to photograph bighorn sheep for 25 minutes at that point though. In the morning from the canyon floor discovered several alertnate routes to try when I return.

Borrego Palm Canyon
Annual post Turkey Day hike. The canyon had just been flooded.
Route Climbed: Henderson Canyon Date Climbed: January 22, 2005
I did this hike with a Sierra club group of about 13 people and everyone was in very good shape. There's not much of a trail, we just kinda followed various ridgelines to the top. It was surprisingly cold and windy at the top. We exited via Palm Canyon and got to see the changes from the big washout/flood through the canyon last year. There's not too many palm trees left, unfortunately.
Route Climbed: from park HQ via Palm Canyon Date Climbed: Feb. 27, 2005
Climbed with Mr. 1000peaks and the DPS. It was shorter, but tougher than Rosa pk. the day before. Nice view of Borrego Valley. My favorite part was seeing desert bighorn sheep for the 1st time in 30 years, though I hear they are a fairly common sight in this area. See pictures at http://community.webshots.com/user/langenbacher in the "Roas & Indianhead" folder.

It was a nice slightly overcast hike. Went up the slope out of palm canyon a little too early, spent a lot of time dodging cacti. Great views of the desert from the summit.
