(Invasive species?) Which one?
The deciduous or evergreen tree on the right (with the pink flowers) is native to Southern Europe.
The man on the LEFT is native to Washington state, USA.
The tree can TRANSPIRE at least 200 gallons (of water) per plant (each day) and will often dry up ponds and streams.
The man likes to have a little bit of cheese with his
wine!
The tree is Tamaricaceae Tamarix or Salt Cedar.
It was introduced to America as an ornamental tree in
the 1800s. Since then, it has spread along streams,
canals, and bodies of water thoughout much of the
Western United States, below the elevation of 5,000
feet. It has been placed on Arizona's Noxious Weed List.
The man is smiling; the tree is not.
