Re: wowThanks! Wyoming doesn't have a tremendous amount of great mountain country, but what it has is pretty special. The Wind Rivers are gorgeous, and Gannett Peak is a great climb!

Re: wowWhaddya mean Wyoming doesn't have good Mountain country? I think Its just underrepresented on SP. Some of my favorite mountains are in Wyoming including those in the Salt River Range and Absarokas. Even the Mtns in the Winds are underrepresented...
Your photos are some of the best I have seen of this area by the way. Well done and thanks for posting them.

It has quite a bit of mountain country, but not even all that high a percentage of Wyoming is mountains, and of that, not that much is great! Of course my statement continued "but what it has is pretty special.". Then I continued with "The Wind Rivers are gorgeous...". Did I say something wrong?

Re: wowOf course not! what I wrote was misleading. I was just sticking up for poor 'ol Wyoming. There are so many places outside of the Winds, YNP and Tetons that go unnoticed. Even some of the places that seem really boring have their own special appeal - such as the Great Divide Basin, Casper Mtns, the area around the Encampment River etc.
Just happy to see that the Winds are well represented- and quite well by you! Your pictures are inspirational! I'll be headed into the area on the W.R. Indian Reservation this summer for climbing and fishing, I just hope my photos come out as good as yours!

I'm also interested in the Bighorn Mountains - actually remember camping there as a kid once on a cross-country trip with my family. I'll never forget waking up early and walking up a trail and encountering a dear at rather close range. Really made an impression on a 12-year-old. I'm looking forward to going back there probably next year to climb Cloud Peak, the highpoint of Big Horn County. Wyoming indeed has some great country, and my most memorable climbs to date include Gannett and the Grand!

Re: wowI think Wyoming's beauty isn't limited to just Yellowstone, the Grand, or the Winds.
I'd love to find more information about Two-Ocean Creek, which is located in the Teton National Forest just south of Yellowstone. It actually splits into 2 seperate creeks & flows into BOTH the Pacific Ocean & Gulf of Mexico! I've seen a few pics of it, but the infomation about it that I've read about it & the pics of it that I've found on the internet are limited. Such a natural places are few & far between, so I'd love to have a fellow SP'er hike to this area & take a LOT of pics of this area from several points.

Now I'm depressedGee thanks, Bob. I was having a contented rainy day here in Seattle uploading some of my pictures to this site. Then I saw nguy's comment and had to see what the commotion was all about for a peak I hope to visit this summer.
I just want you to no you've ruined my day, both of you. Bob should not be allowed to post such beautiful shots on this site. It's just not fair!

Re: Now I'm confusedI dunno, my whole series of pix on the Gannett Peak approach we used have been voted low for whatever reasons. Maybe it was because they depressed people 
, or maybe they think the photos are off subject since the pix with Gannett Peak in them have done OK. Anyway, I like 'em and you like 'em, so that's good enough for me!

That's ridiculous!What are people smoking that they rate such a beautiful picture so poorly? Not only is it beautiful, but it also shows part of the approach, so it's more useful than a summit shot or some other picture that is purely aesthetic without practical use.

rational explanation of low ratingsThese viewers were expecting this to be the signature photo for the Fremont Peak page, but this page never materialized therefore the voters were dissapointed.

Re: rational explanation of low ratingsThe photo was submitted in 2001. At that time, members could vote on photos multiple times. Also, non-members could vote. So some yahoo could come along and vote zero stars ten times. This would likely be a candidate for "photo of the week" nowadays...

Gannett PeakI'm not sure if Gannett Peak is visible in this photo. If I remember correctly, Mt. Helen is in the cwnter & the lager mountain just right of center is Fremont Peak. Gannett Peak is hidden from view here & is further up the range from Mount Helen. Please let me know if I'm mistaken.

Re: Gannett PeakYou are absolutely correct that Gannett is not visible in this photo. But there were occasions during the hike in to Island Lake that we could see the north end of the summit ridge peeking out from behind the highest of those points just left of Bonney Pass in this photo. I have several photos of that. We now wish that we had climbed Fremont Peak while we were there, but alas... -Bob
