From Marion Mountain Trail  Sucess!

Penelope and I hiked the Marion Mountain trail past Fuller Ridge Trail and up cross-country to Jean's summit. There is still some snow on the north side of Jean, we used boots and crampons in mid morning. Marion Mountain trail is mostly free of snow while crossing the north side of San Jac.

First Time  Sucess!

A group of 8 started from Marion Mountain TH on snow-covered trails and summited Marion Mountain (up to the base of the summit block), Shirley, Jean, Newton-Drury, Folly (only 2 hikers went all the way to the summit, not including me), and San Jacinto peaks.

Fun & Easy  Sucess!

Hit this peak after San Jacinto. I question why this is not a trail across the saddle, but then understand the need for limited impact in the wilderness.

After Conference Hike  Sucess!

Was at a conference in Palm Springs, got out before lunch and took the tram up, hiked Miller Peak, San Jacinto Peak and Jean Peak, hardly any snow except on the offtrail descent from Jean back down to the regular trail. Got back down from the tram by 6 PM and was home in Tracy a bit after midnight. Trip report is HERE.

Traverse from Marion Mountain  Sucess!

Decided to add Jean to the Marion loop even though I had been on top before. This was the first time without snow though. Cross-country traverse was easy enough despite dropping down a bit, then coming up the south side and wrapping around to the SE to avoid some big blocks. No views to speak of due to trees getting in the way. Found the summit register this time. Continued on to Newton Drury.

Snowshoe from Tram  Sucess!

On my birthday, decided to do a snowshoeing outing to my favorite peak in Southern California (San J). Tagged Jean first after popping out at the saddle from Sid Davis.

Re: 2nd Highest CA peak

It was a great consolation prize, but we sure worked hard for it!

2nd Highest SoCAL peak  Sucess!

After a San Jacinto summit 2 years prior, wanted to take girlfriend to the top of SoCal on our climbing date. Nice tram ride up to mid-altitude. I was paying more attention to her pretty looks than hand railing up this snowy peak and so we mistakenly post-holed too far west to summit a mountain without a marker, Jean Peak. Anyway, good conditioning for climbing down in Colombia later this Spring.

Oops, wrong peak.  Sucess!

Successfully slogged and postholed through the snow on and off trails only to find we're on the wrong peak! Ran out of daylight to grab San Jacinto Peak, but this beautiful one will definitely suffice until next time :) Gorgeous views, beautiful day, and wonderful climbing partner.
