Matterhorn-Wetterhorn ClimbOn our 2002 climb of Wetterhorn, we climbed Matterhorn first (to right of picture), then descended down the tundra slope and some scree to the rock glacier seen in the center of this picture. We climbed up onto this rock glacier and made our way through the boulders toward Wetterhorn, gaining the Wetterhorn SE ridge standard route in about an hour at a spot just left of the picture. The ridge has been traversed, but it is very time consuming. Retreat is difficult, and bail routes are not readily available.
