Fun Hike to the top
We left from the stables in Huntington. It was a tough hike for me at the begining as this trail just goes up! Once I got my second wind just past College rock and the views got better my sprits climbed. As you are approaching the peak the views are fantastic. It was definitly worth it and I can't wait to get back out there.

Fun in the snow
Even though the trail was covered with snow in the upper reaches, there were still a few who made it up that Saturday. Clear skies in the morning gave way to rolling clouds and a white-out on the upper slopes. Great conditioning hike.

Great fun
I started from Upper Deer Creek Lane, taking the Kaiser Peak trail. Stopped off at College Rock on the way up, a quick little scramble with nice views. Views were superb from the summit, looking out to the peaks of the high sierra to the north and east. On descent I came across a mama bear and her little cinnamon cub, probably out foraging for the upcoming winter. The encounter was fantastic, the 2 bears ran off about 100 yards and I got some great pictures. But the encounter sufficiently spooked me enough to make me abandon my plans of of doing a night hike later on that evening.
Hiked with Mike Chen - cold sunny early spring day, gorgeous views of Mount Ritter from the summit.

Potter Cut-Off
2-16 inches of fresh snow made for a scenic hike and outstanding views. Some minor post-holing atop the Kaiser ridge was not enough to make me wish for my snowshoes. I added about a mile to the round trip by missing the Potter Cut-Off junction on the return and hiking back to my starting point from the pack station. It was still an easy day, yet a great way to build up an appetite for Thanksgiving.

Sample Meadows
I easily made it to the peak hiking cross country much of the way from Sample Meadows (after turning back early on a couple of previous attempts). On the way back after dark with a broken headlamp, I stumbled across a trail and sign about a mile from camp, chose the wrong way to go and wandered around all night covering much of the trail system. I guess I'd have been better off staying off trail, but it was not cold and there could be many worse ways to spend a night.

From Potter Creek
Overnite snowshoe trip. I was a little disoriented I guess... I reached the summit sooner than expected, picked up my pack intending to continue on toward the west, when I realized that I was already on the highest point. Outstanding view- especially in the winter months when the air is clean and windswept.

Kaiser Loop East
Day hike from D&F Pack station. Encountered some snow and the trail was covered in sections. It's very cool to see the Sierra from the west side. On the way down, we checked out College Rock - quite neat rock formation and spot to view Huntington Lake.
Spring, Fall, and now Summer check. Tried 3 times to summit it in the winter. Try again winter 2011. Today was fun, a little hot. Up in 3hrs from the pack station and back in 2hrs.
Deer Creek Lane was just melting out and managed to drive to within a couple 100 yards of the trailhead (4x4 could make the end). Went directly upslope to College Rock and wore snowshoes from beginning to end, had perfect weather and views. Camped overnight in the meadow above College Rock.
