1st Highpoint
I climbed this mountain well before even thinking about climbing all 50 state highpoints which was not started until 9 years after this state. From what I can remember of this summit, it was extremely difficult but it started my love affair with hiking. Chimney pond was beautiful!!

Knife Edge
Maybe the best mountain in the East if you want some scrambling.

Into the mist..
Up Cathedral, Cross the Knife Edge, down Helen Taylor. Beautiful and trying hike that I'll never forget.

3rd times the charm
We tried to do this trip the last 2 winters, and only now were we able to summit. Well worth the wait. One of the better North Eastern peaks. Massive, impressive, big, and intimidating. Great trip though. We squeezed in between 2 big snow systems, and were able to be the only people on the mountain that week. We went up the Cathedral trail, and back the same route. Amazing. What a good trip!

Up Dudley, over the Knife Edge and down the Saddle, from Chimney Pond. 4.5 hours for this, not counting the trip back down to the trailhead. Knife Edge was in the clouds the whole time, which probably made the hike go faster as there were no pictures to take. It did clear out towards the end, though, with some nice views of the mountain cloaked in yellow from the fall birches.

Summit!
Climbed up Cathedral to the summit, then down the Saddle. Got to see to see two AT hikers finishing their journey as an added bonus.
Clear day with very little clouds after heavy rain the night before.

Class Reunion
Hiked Katahdin with High School buddie Leo,son Ollie and my son Hunter on a beautiful day. Going up was easy, coming down I struggled. I was about a 1/2 hr behind the other 3. Four years later my son wants to return and do the Knifes Edge. Contemplating a 2011 hike!

Up Abol down Hunt
We started at 6:30am and went up the Abol which was steep but not to bad, though I stayed a fair distance behind the person ahead because of the loose rocks which sometimes dislodged. Got to the top traveled some of the knife edge turned around because of time, went back to Baxter Peak, then down the Hunt. 12 hour hike that was awesome. Especially since we were able to hitch a ride back to our campsite at Abol. Haha.

Cathedral up - Helon Taylor down
Perfect day. Up and down in 7.5 hrs. Bagged Mt. Mansfield in VT the day before to make it two state high points in as many days. This is only high point #7 for me though. Easily the coolest mountain on the east coast.
Up Helon Taylor/Knife Edge, down Saddle. Gorgeous day, not too many bugs. Totally lucked out on the weather.

Dudley - Knife Edge
First time climbing in New England and first time with my dad and my younger brother. An excellent but challenging climb. Wish the Chimney Pond trail had less rocks.

Helon Taylor / Knife Edge round trip
It was a beautiful day for weather, and the boulders/rocks were brutal! State highpoint #23 for me.

Beautiful
Went up the knife edge and loved my day on the mountain.
Ice everywhere & 100 yard visibility=no view. My 3rd HP. Went back in Sept. 1987 and spent 2 nights at Chimney Pond hut. Spent an hour or more on top and saw 2 nurses from Atlanta come up the AT and give a big high-5. Yes, they finished the AT! Hiked down the knife edge in perfect warm weather. It's the best hike in the NE! Finished the 50 state high points in 2002 (#111).
