"As an adolescent I aspired to lasting fame, I craved factual certainty, and I thirsted for a meaningful vision of human life - so I became a scientist. This is like becoming an archbishop so you can meet girls."

Knife-Edge Baby!Had the honor of climbing this one the last day park was open before Irene came barreling thru! Fortunately - the weather held for us all day... and we got out before things got ugly..

Toughest Eastern Peak?I made it up the Hunt trail with my friend Matthew on a particularly windy/cloudy day. I'd have to agree that this is the toughest peak I've encountered in the east - I'd say it's almost worthy of the Cascades!

Katahdin second attemptThe day before, I foolishly tried to force a climb through some inclement weather. But the next morning dawned clear and beautiful, so I stayed past my Baxter reservation and climbed the Abol slide en route to the summit. Best decision I could make. The Abol slide, the table, Baxter Peak, all amazing and well worth the trip.

The Greatest MountainCertainly one of the greatest mountains in the East. Amazing views in all directions. First state highpoint accomplished and it was well worth it.

9th State HPWow... what a hike! Absolutely stunning scenery and beautiful weather made for a perfect day. Originally intended on doing Helon Taylor and the Knife edge, but it was rather windy so we opted for Saddle instead.

Best peak in the NEIMHO. 2009 solo adventure on Knife Edge was great. Went back again with GF and a buddy and did the AT, which is also awesome. I want a winter ascent.

What a peakClimbed up the Saddle Trail and hit the top, where it was sunny and filled with people. There must have been 60 people at the top when I arrived. This peak had the most amazing views, and I can't wait to try it again via the Knife Edge route!

First ClimbMy partner on this climb has since passed away, and it is a very important place to me for that and many other reasons.

soloCathedral-Knife Edge-Helon Taylor, solo, just under 5 hours car-to-car. Blue-bird skies, almost no wind. Minimal bugs, too. Still a couple of snow patches left in South Basin. All in all a good day - too bad the drive is so damn long...

Thru hike perfect endingvia an AT thru-hike. snow flurries and no visibility on summit day but nonetheless a great cap to an awesome experience. at age 19, the months alone in my head on the trail were the best thing that ever happened to me...

Abol Slide scrambleClimbed via the Abol Slide Trail. Met many interesting people including a man who had summited Katahdin for the 46th time. 8 hours round trip including a leisure lunch at the summit. A clear day with great views. The black flies were brutal. State HP #47.
