Keller Mountain
I climbed Keller Mountain in the Gore Range with Caroline. It took longer than expected. The last part of the ridge climb was pretty tedious.
We descended the south face and South Fork Rock Creek to the old Boss Mine. The upper half of the route was really nice and we found a trail in places. We lost the trail on the second half of the route to the Boss Mine and the going was pretty time consuming. We made it back around sunset.
The views were good, and I had been up the mountain before, but it's not on my repeat list.

East ridge with Matt and Maggie
Fun route. Took Gore Range Trail 1/4 mile to old wagon road and followed it through a thousand downed trees along the ridge to avoid the slog up from Boss Hogg’s mine.
South ridge with Rachael. Second time up this peak, fun ridge and a shorter drive for us coming from the west than the usual Rock Creek routes. Used Bighorn Trail.

Great people and fun rock
Horrible mosquitos on the approach and running from clouds on the descent (E ridge). First time in the Gores! Only a few other people on the ridge.

SE face
There is a trail up N. Rock Creek that takes off at the mine tailings. I did not find the trail until I came down. I went up to the basin with the small lake south of the summit, hiked NW into the next basin and then NE to the summit. This route is just Class 2.
First Gore attempt/summit (except for Buffalo/Sacred Buffalo several weeks ago). Thought I'd see no one, but the parking lot was full. Still, saw only 5 other hikers and 2 hunters. Thought I'd see animals, but saw practically nothing until 3 moose visited the parking lot before I left. Great ridge! The fun doesn't really start until the second false summit.
I climbed Keller in September 2004 while working in Kremmling. This was only weeks before moving to Craig.

YIKES!
What a beautiful hike! Although coming back along the ridge came as close to getting by lightning as we ever have, or want to be. Bailed down into the valley where we were meet with some nice snowdrifts.
On the way to Grand Traverse. I tried not to anger the talus spiders. Trip report.

boss hike
Walked up to the Boss mine, then up to the E ridge, the back the E ridge. The only place I've seen all white columbine is in the talus up high on this peak. Another peak all to my self except for a moose down low...

giant spiders on East Ridge
HORRENDOUS mosquitoes on the approach. MAN EATING spiders on the ridge. AMAZING scrambling on the crest. Running from thunderstorms on the descent. Sounds like the typical Gore day eh?

Long Day
Keller was great, but you better be in shape if you plan to pack in to upper Slate Lake after this one. The class 3 ridge on Keller is a lot of fun. I like those Gores.

Bighorn Creek
One last hike before proposing to my fiancee on Notch Mtn the next day...very remote and peaceful.
Combined Keller with N. Traverse, Grand Traverse, and 12485. Up Bighorn Creek and down Deluge Lake trails with car shuttle. A long day of scrambling! See TR.

East Ridge up, South Slopes down
The east ridge was an easy 3rd class scramble. Descended a loose gully to the south and just when the bushwhacking started getting bad, we found a fairly good trail that led all the way back to the mine! This trail is a good ways above the valley floor.

Keller
It was a perfect day. I got to the trailhead at 3am and started at 4am. It was a bushwhack up to the ridge and the 3rd class route finding was a blast. I spent some time on the summit learning my favorite Colorado range, then decided to glissade 1100 vertical feet down the SE face of Keller into the Rock Creek drainage. It was a grueling bushwhack back to Boss Mine. Since my first visit I've been intrigued by the Gore Range, and today I obtained my first Gore Range summit. I'm hooked!
