Taste of summer
80 degrees on Keller with a miniature heat wave to break the June gloom. Awesome lookout crew. I did not know about the use trail to Slide, so tried unsuccessfully to access from the Children's Forest trailhead.

Sunset at the tower
Came up here to watch the sunset from the Keller Peak fire lookout tower. This doesn't happen often since the tower normally closes at 5 PM (well before sunset in summer) and isn't open in winter (when the sun does set before 5 PM).

Keller Peak Road
Hiked to Slide from the use trail that starts at the Keller-Slide saddle. Drove to Keller Peak summit. Really beautiful fall day!
After checking off Mill Peak, drove up the road to a turnout, parked, hit up Slide first, then traversed back to the road and walked up to Keller. A storm was gathering, so I made my way back to the car fast and drove off just as rain began to fall.

After a thunderstorm
Second hike of day, after Sugarloaf Mountain. Had to wait out a thunderstorm. Parked near the upper Exploration TH and hiked the road to the top, about 1.5 miles each way, but the guys up in the tower were watching a smoke plume that had just formed and told me I couldn't come up to the top. Still, a nice "hike".

Exploration Trail
Hiked up the Exploration Trail out of Running Springs to the fire road 1 mile from Keller Peak Lookout. Great views from the lookout but a lot of friggin' bugs on the trail.

3 Peak Snowshoe Traverse
Snowshoed with Erin from the highway up Mill Peak and then over to Keller & Slide before returning via the snow packed road. The segment between Mill and Keller was highly challenging and a bit harder than we had planned for, making the day much longer. Plans to climb three additional peaks were postponed until next time.
Keller Peak is one of my favorite stops when I'm visiting the area. If it wasn't for the road it would most likely be the number hike in the range outside of the San Gorgoio Wilderness area. Slide and Mill peaks are fun little trips both with great views.
