I like . . .

the rock in this picture. The way you can see the layers of rock throughout the mountain is really neat. Great shot! Also, is there more mountains in the background with a low lying fog in the valley?

Re: I like . . .

Glad you like the picture. Those are actually the islands of the Great Salt Lake in the background. However there are plenty of peaks north and south of Kelsey. Happy Trails out there.

Actually ...

A lot of folks (in Tooele) refer to them as
Kelsey Peak (left) and White Pine Peak (right), but what the hell do they know in Tooele?

I visited Kelsey Peak about 35 years ago.

Right now, I'm thanking my lucky stars that
Kelsey and White Pine Peaks haven't been
"violated" for the amount of copper they contain.

They never liked me in Tooele ... : )

(I always wondered if KELSEY was named after
the famous "author" of those hiking guides.)

Just a thought ..

Re: Actually ...

Ya by posting this peak I caused quite a bit of contraversy....you missed the epic swarm of comments and bashing Larry.

As for if this peak was named after Michael R Kelsey? I bet it was not but I like the idea of that....I will have to add it to the Kelsey Peak page.

P.S. I am with you...if the copper mines had their way the Oquirrh Mountain Range would insted be a 30 mile long whole in the ground.

Re: Actually ...

Oh? What did I miss ???

White Pine Peak, (the one on the right), can
be easily climbed from the Middle Canyon side.

Have you guys been up Middle Canyon?
It's pretty cool ...

Except, never go up there on Friday night.
Lot's of rowdy "Tooele Home Boys" up there!

Re: Actually ...

What I'm saying is, that MIGHT be a better
route up to Kelsey.

When I climbed it in 1981, I counted twice as
many porcupine and deer as I did cattle !!!

WHY were there so many cows in Picnic Canyon?
Were they having a picnic ???

: )))

Re: Actually ...

Ya Larry I am picking up what you are laying down. We must have seen over 20 cows in Picnic Canyon....we will have to go back when the 1st snows drive them off the mountain for the winter. Never had the chance to chase a cow on skis before. Maybe this winter? Happy Trails Larry.
