many days of fun
Wow. I spent many days here, doing A LOT of things. Some parts of the park were closed, due to an active vent in the Halema'uma'a crater, but still I saw and did so much stuff here. I stayed in Volcano Village, so it was very convenient. You'll never forget your time here.
Spent all night out there. On the way back got caught in a sideways rain shower. As the sun was rising a perfect end to end rainbow appeared. The Big Island rocks! Also now hooked on Royal Kona Honey Macadamia Nut coffee.

Long, long ago ...
in human terms. Spent most of my honeymoon (1982) in Volcanoes National Park. Hiked across the Halemaumau Trail and climbed down sea cliffs where aa lava sliced up my flip-flops.

Surreal landscape
Went through the Thurston lava tube before inspecting the Holeil sea arch. Ventured out onto the lava field that crosses the road and found flowing lava after 2 miles. The flow enters the ocean a mile farther, but had to turn back.
Don't trip and scrape a knee or fall down. Hardened lava cuts like glass. An amazing, unforgettable hike.

NEW LAND
I loved this place. The crater was amazing. Too bad it is no longer the massive lava lake that Mark Twain saw when he visited. I did the Thurston Lava Tube, Hiked the Crater, and went down the Chain of Craters road to see the lava flows. An unforgetable experience!
Visited the park with my mother. Did small hikes in the caldera, Thurston Lava tube, among watching the small famous black sand beach get devoured.

On fire
I actually played with lava, it's molten rock. How awesome is that.

Amazing
Stopped here on our honeymoon. Stayed at the Volcano House - highly recommended. Drove the Crater Rim and Chain of Craters Road and hiked the Kilauea Iki trail which was simply great.

Route Climbed: Entire crater rim, plus across the crater Date Climbed: February 1995NIce trip in 1995 with my wife. Interesting trails. One day we hiked the 11.6 mile long Crater Rim Trail and another day we hiked across the crater.
We also saw the lava spilling into the ocean as well, but this is way south of the summit, and from a seperate crater (but still part of Kilauea).
