Whata way to go!!

I've heard they pumped clay into cavities where people had been buried during the eruption. The actual bodies have long disappeared and all is left are the cavities.

No cavities ?

Looks like they still owned their choppers.

Sorry, this is a bit macabre. Macabre -
isn't that an Italian word ???

Re: No cavities ?

When I visited Naples in 1977, the people
were so full of LIFE, and I could never
imagine (in my wildest dreams) a catastrophe
of this magnitude.

I would think there'd be some kind of monument to those who lost their lives here.

I don't care if they were members of the
lower class; they still deserve to be
remembered. (Just my two cents.)

Re: i don't know Larry,

I miss the Gladiators, but only the "false"
gladiators on American television, and the
one's who dress as gladiators.

Re: Very expensive passion!

Seeing these victims had a profound impact on me and may have changed the way I feel about volcanoes.

Vesuvius erupted on or around each of the following years: 79, 172, 203, 222, 303, 379, 472, 512, 536, 685, 787, 860, 900, 968, 991, 999, 1006, 1037, 1049, 1073, 1139, 1150, 1270, 1347, 1500. 1631, six times in the 18th century, eight times in the 19th century, 1906, 1929, and 1944. That's an average of once every 43 years.
