On the third try from Vusanje  Sucess!

The first attempt was unsuccessufll because of wildfires, the second because of large snowfields above Preslop.
The only slightly dangerous section is between Preslop and Prevoj Kolata, the path goes along steep edges, but it's passable without climbing gear. If there is snow, the crampons are neccessary.
At 42.5112786N, 19.8918606E there's a spring that does not dry out even in hot summer.

Evil mountain unholy day  Sucess!

From Vusanje, climbed in one day. I met 4 Slovakian hikers along the way. They shared some Tatra Tea on the summit. What a treat!

From Vusanje  Sucess!

We climbed Zla, Dobra and Ravna Kolata. It was a 2 day hike from Vusanje - we camped just before Preslopit Pass and early on the next morning we climbed the peaks.

Amazing Full Day Hike!   Sucess!

Fanatastic Hike from village of Vusanje, which we started early in the morning and finished in late afternoon.
Marks on the trail are very well done and it is quite easy to reach the peak just following them.

Amazing Hike to the (un)officially highest peak of Montenegro.

Horrible trail system  Sucess!

Hiked from Vusanje to the summit. Followed a trail a few miles and it then petered out... Made my way across to the bottom of the valley to follow the red trail to the saddle. Followed the trail to the Albanian border and followed red markings that led to a cliff and ended there. Ended up scrambling up the West face and traversing to avoid cliffs. Very direct route but not ideal. Descended nearly the same route and hiked back to Vusanje. 22.2 km total distance, 5400 ft gain. GPS track would have been very helpful. Make sure to go up the valley between Dobra Kolata and Zla Kolata instead of continuing to the Albanian border. The markings that led me to a cliff may have been border markers, I think...

Broken Finger/ Rockfall

My dad and I attempted this peak from Vusanje. We hiked through the clearing, through a pasture, and to a saddle on the Albanian border where we began scrambling. Still snow surprisingly in July, we lost trail and my dad was hit by rockfall at 2100 m. He had an open fracture on his right index finger which required us to go to Plav, then sent to Berane for emergency surgery, which the very friendly Montenegrin doctor botched. The finger got infected pretty badly partially because of a coathanger-like wire that was drilled the length of the finger (and stuck out the tip like Captain Hook), but was not attached to any bone. Anyway, a month later he might have to amputate (not sure).

Montenegro's country highpoint  Sucess!

A wonderful climb in total solitude. The only living beings we met on our way up and down were cows.

Dobra and Zla Kolata  Sucess!

After staying overnight at sheperd hut on a meadows high above Cerem on Albanian side, invited by extremely hospitable couple of elderly hosts we climbed Qafa Borit first to find the trailhead hidden in rocky maze then. Passing picturesque ice cave and reaching Qafa Preslopit saddle soon from where we traversed some exposed grassy terrain losing the right, marked path for a few moments, continuing our climb through steep and vast system of grass-rocky ledges to the pass between two Kolatas. Finding out which of those two prominent summits is the higher one can be quite problematic for the first visit here and we, misled by advice of one Slovenian guide met on the way turned to the left reaching the lower Dobra Kolata first what we realised just standing up there. Going back to the pass and climbing Zla Kolata - the highest point of Montenegrin side of Prokletije and the whole country in one hour time. Great panoramas in all directions. Long descent the same way to the trailhead below Qafa Borit meadows and through the valley to the North, towards Vusanje village in some incredbile sunset scenery over the mountains viewed far in the West...

Dobra or Zla?  Sucess!

Two weeks after we had returned from this trip we decided: It was higher summit we climbed. On the Preslop Pass we missed the marked path and we climbed directly to the summit of Zla Kolata (2534 m) and passed round second summit - 6 m lower.
Very helpfull turned out panorama from this site: http://www.panoramy.naszewyprawy.net/Zla_Kolata.php
