Bluebird HikeHave done this several times, first time in the winter. Almost no snow on the Rock Canyon trail up to the Squaw Peak trail but snow or ice on the trail almost all the way up on the Squaw Peak trail.

Finally!Up Rock Canyon with Craig Lloyd and NateY. We ran about 3/4 of the way up and hit the top in just over an hour. What a view! This is a must do for anyone living in the area.

First Friday HikeWent from the Rock Canyon trailhead at 6:00 am. Made it to the summit in about an hour and twenty min. Spent some time enjoying the views along the way and especially from the top.
Got back to the cars in about 3 hours from the start so I was at work by about 9:30 or so that day.
A fun and quick summit this close to town is great to have!

Fun in the RainThe actual date here is a total guess, but the month and year are accurate. We did the hike in fairly good time, which is good since a storm blew in as we started to descend. We ran most of the way down the mountain back to the cars, creating an unforgettable night. The views from the top were spectacular though, especially in early evening when we were there.

Nice Winter ClimbWe managed to climb it in the late afternoon, in about 4 hours. The trail was packed down, so snowshoes weren't necessary. Great views on top! The snow covered clearings near the top are neat.

9th timeNow I've done it 9 times, five times so far in 2013. Such an excellent conditioner so close to home with good mileage and elevation gain that it keeps calling me back.
Update 9-15-12 Did this with my son Brad who had never hiked this one before. I was testing my ankle that had been injured about three weeks earlier and it did fine. Up and down in 4 1/2 hours. Not overly fast but at my age and recovering from an ankle problem, good enough. Besides, it was my birthday hike and the 2nd time I've done this one on my birthday. : )
12-14-13 Total snow hike with Greg and Kadee and their dog Oq'r. Trail was nicely packed down and snowshoes not required but the temps outside hovered in the 20 degree range most of the time we were on the trail. Fortunately no wind and we met another summitpost member at the summit.

TwoferI jogged up to the summit in a few minutes and then went down the rock slide to hit the squaw peak trail. It took a bit to get there, but it was lovely; lots of birds and such. I bushwacked my way back up to get the trail back to the road and it was pretty terrible, but still fun! I got covered in spider webs.

Nice hikeVia Rock Canyon and First Left Fork. Also bushwhacked up to "Buffalo Peak" (8020) which is NNE of Squaw. Not much snow and what there was was nicely packed down.

Spring AscentVia rock canyon - normal route. Beautiful day. 2-3 feet of snow on the final mile. Snow was firm enough to kick-step up to the top, but coming down was post-holing every step! Crazy to do in shorts and no shirt on. Sun burn ensued.

First Ascent of Squawstruck (IV 5.11-), 1,900', 22 pitchesI've climbed Squaw Peak a bunch of times via a bunch of routes. I think in the last year alone it's been 6 times. I finally finished my mega project that goes up the cliffs on the south face. It took me 3 years to complete the stupid thing, but I guess it was all worth it in the end :)

Multiple Runs to the topSep. 14, 2013
Ran up with Brita---clouds obscured the views of the higher peaks which was a bummer, but an otherwise gorgeous day on top.

I've been up to the top many times via "The Pines" and by Rock Canyon. Summitted with Joe Morton and it was great. My Dad Hawk later went up and found mountain lion tracks in our footprints for over a mile---he noted that unlike us, he was alone!

West SlopeI actually was just messing around in rock canyon near the water tank about 1/3 mile into the canyon and started going up a rock chute and climbed for about 30 minutes to the top of the chute. At the top of the chute there was a faint trail that seemed to go to the peak. I decided to follow that for a while. After about 600 vertical feet it disappeared and I figured that I would just bushwack to the top. It was a lot harder than it looked, but was still fun. I was pretty sick of shrub oak at the top so I decided to go down the standard route. It took about 3 hours to climb up and 1 hour to jog down.

Rock CanyonThis is such a nice hike. The first mile is right next to the stream and is gorgeous. On top there was some meadows with yellow wild flowers. I highly recommend it if you have a few hours on a summer morning.

From RCNever got around to doing this one until now, but it's a surprisingly nice hike and (of course) has great views of the valley. Had the summit to myself for about an hour, during which I took a great nap.

Climbed several timesI've climbed Squaw Peak over a dozen times. I've gone several times from Rock Canyon and several times from the Squaw Peak Road, which sucks but is faster. I'm currently working on a sport climbing route that goes up the south face of the mountain. So far I've got 14 completed pitches and, when completed, it will be somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-21 pitches. I'm also trying to keep the route under 5.11. Stay tuned. It should be finished by the end of summer 2010. Let me know if you'd like to contribute financially to the bolting process (them bolts are expensive!).

Rock Canyon/Left ForkIt is a beautiful, scenic hike, that took about 1 hour 45 minutes to the top from the Rock Canyon parking area. Great views at the top! It was much more pleasant than my previous trip. I did this same hike for the first time a little over a month earlier in mid April. Due to the exceptionally cool and wet Spring we've had this year, the east side (backside) leading up to Squaw Peak was covered with four to five feet of snow shortly after making the left fork. "Postholing" was a common occurrence, but it was sunny enough that despite all the snow, we felt comfortable hiking in shorts and a t-shirt. It took about three hours to make it to the top back in April.
