More than expected
Climbed from Harris Springs road. The way up was pretty easy, but the way down was a different animal. The directions found on here were easy enough to follow, but I think sometimes without the trail being off 10 yds one way or another can make a world of difference. Anyway, good hike and view at the end is very cool. You can follow the jeep road all the way up to the turn around (36°13'29.8"N 115°28'48.6"W) but I think 4 wheel drive is probably a necessity for a couple parts. If I climbed again, I would pull off and park here: 36°13'41.4"N 115°28'55.3"W. Total distance was just under 6mi round trip, and took an embarrassingly long 7.5 hrs (see the miserable descending comment)

El Bastardo/Burnt Peak/El Padre/La Madre
Big day in the Spring Mountains. Climbed El Bastardo from the La Madre Springs trail then traversed over Burnt Peak, El Padre & La Madre. Also scrabbled almost all the way to East La Madre but ran out of time to complete that leg of the traverse. Hiked out to the edge of Summerlin. Really cool day. Love the Spring Mountains.

From Calico Basin
Up from Calico Basin, over both humps into Brownstone Basin, then up, up, up, over the steepest, loosest terrain you can imagine. Fifteen miles round trip. I'm trashed!

Via Harris Springs
Drove in via Harris Springs Rd, then the jeep trail. Got the route from MoapaPk (thank you). Have to say, not my favorite hike. Bushwhacking and constantly being diverted to one side or the other of the ridge made for a frustrating day. The views at the top, however, are unique and outstanding. Loved seeing Red Rock from this vantage point.

Queen of NW Vegas
Surprisingly enjoyable hike from S. Harris Springs Road. Followed the jeep trail, then the ridge with some bushwhacky meandering, then the famous scar and some mild class 3 scrambling to the summit.

Good Winter Climb
Part of a two peak climb, this was just on the edge of being too warm. An outstanding climb with plenty of class 3 climbing near the summit, and a nice, narrow ridge to traverse over to El Padre, not far away. Both had excellent views of the Red Rock Canyon area, the Charleston Wilderness and mountain areas, and of course, the sludge that is called Las Vegas.

Great climb
From the northwest off of Harris Spring Road. Once the rough, southbound side road ended, I stuck to the ridges per Bob Burd's route. Lots of fun rock scrambling. Made the mistake of not wearing long pants though -- lots of thorny plants around.
Not the best trail I've ever been on and cold, but outstanding views!

From Harris Spring Road
Nice cool winter day. Took the ATV road south from Harris Spring Road and then climbed the ridgeline from the end. Still a fair amount of snow on the north facing slopes.
rough hike, 3.5 miles sand wash, and then the hike starts, loose gravel and rocks. hot today 3 quarts of water wasnt enough, 4 hours 9 minutes from sand stone quarry to peak.did not bag La Padre today big mistake.

From Sandstone Quarry
I went up to the Turtlehead Peak saddle, along the ridge, and then to La Madre. 3 hours up and 2.5 hours down. It was a big mistake to go up to the saddle. Because I had to clime extra 600 ft. I found one dry wash is connected to the Sandstone quarry Parking and took this way on the way down. Its much easier and faster.

This one was a lot of fun. Hiked up from the Sandstone Quarry parking area in Red Rocks. Followed (more or less) the ascent route provided here by the always helpful SP member MoapaPk:
I didn't do the full loop as shown, but pretty much retraced my steps on the descent. Total of about 9 miles and 3,850 feet vertical.

Loop
Started at Sandstone Quarry, went up the wash (same cairns from 15 months ago!), to La Madre, then took the ridge west over El Padre (8093'), west over 7900' point, to just before 7986' point, then south down the class 3/4 canyon to near Key. Thr. trail and over E. About 12 miles total, 5100' accum. elev. gain. Went with Mark B. who complained of weakness from a cold, but still made it to top of Madre in less than 3 hrs. The real adventure was yet to come.
The ridge W of La Madre is great.
Also went from N side in Jan 2002, from Brownstone Basin Nov 2004, and over the east ridge in June 2007 (2x one day!). Met SusanM on top in 2004.

route climbed: southwest approach from White Rock Spring
Climbed this one with Mark Cichoski. Warm day, but decent temperature on top.
We went up (starting at the Sandstone Quarry) to the Turtlehead Peak saddle, along the ridge, and then to La Madre. 4 hours up and 3 hours down. If you're looking for a shortcut, you can take the wash from the Sandstone Quarry all the way around the Turtlehead Peak ridge. This saves a lot time, needless elevation gain/loss, and is a lot easier. We did this on the way down.
