This can also be done from the lake Caldonazzo side - even without a car, directly from one of the train stations (e.g. Pergine or San Cristoforo). This would be about 1300m ascent and 7 to 10km one way depending on the starting point. A decent 1:25000 map is indispensable, as the multiple branching paths can be confusing. Amazing scenery all the way up.
