After separate fun, little Wahclella Falls and Multnoma Falls hikes earlier that day, we decided to do one with more panoramic views. The viewpoint at the top did not disappoint, and with good skies we were able to clearly see Mount Jefferson, Mount Hood, Mount Adams, and Mount Rainier in the distance (Mount St. Helens was probably visible as well, but it didn't stand out as clearly).

Wet, rainy, foggy
I have hiked around the crater rim several times, but of course I had to pick a day with miserable weather to hike up from the Historic Highway (which in my opinion is the true way to "climb" this particular mountain). I shall have to do it again when the skies are clear, so that I can enjoy the views from Sherrard Point.

Went down Larch mountain trail till the junction with mult. creek trail and followed that up 2.7 miles till hitting another trail that went back to larch mountain road. Hiked up the road and hit the parking lot. 6.9 miles 1400 feet gain logged on gps

Multnomah-Triple Falls Loop Unbelievable
One of the best trail runs I've ever been on. Brian and I ran up from Multnomah and summitted in just under 1 1/2 hours and then took the route back down the gulch with Triple falls...pretty dang incredible. Views on top are stunning...too bad people can get most of the way there by car.
This hike was spectacular! Enjoyed it even more than the popular Eagle Creek area next day. Walked a bit, slept a bit, woke up at the top to take in the views, was quiet and a bit worried on the way down in the dark. I set a new personal record for elevation gain on this hike!

Mult Falls to summit
Great day. Cool in the trees, warmer as the sun rose. Hit snow about 25oo ft. Lots of snow at the summit, probably a good 10ft+. Trail markers at the level of the snow. Few trees down between 2500ft and 3000ft. No snowshoes needed but may help with long hike in soft snow. Rivers are roaring more than ever. Getting ready for Hood in a couple weeks.

One of the best trails in the Gorge. I love the upper Mult. basin and the Bell Creek trail. As for the view: hop the fence, stand on the real summit and try to get there on a clear winter day to avoid the RV crowd.
