Large-flowered Hemp Nettle

Large-flowered Hemp Nettle (Galeopsis speciosa – Polish: Poziewnik pstry) is a common annual in the Low Beskid and the Bieszczady Mountains. It blooms from May through October. The flowers are yellow with a purple patch. They are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are pollinated by insects. This plant can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or sunlight. It requires moist soil. Galeopsis speciosa is poisonous, causing paralysis. The Low Beskid – Slope of Mount Kopa - August 06, 2008
