Mid-morning climb with my 11 year old son, Michael. I was surprised by the absence of any breeze at the summit. Just after we reached the summit, a jet fighter circled the peak at our elevation a couple of times, close enough that we could see the pilot.

Part of a Memorial weekend adventure. Snow was real sloppy, but it was still worth the trip.

Northeast Bowl Snowboarding
Snowboarding was awesome, although it was crusty/icy up top and the approach lacked snow. Wrote a trip report (incl. route and conditions) at http://beachyadventures.blogspot.com/2014/05/lassen-peak-snowboarding.html

Winter Ascent from Lake Helen
Climbed the SW ridge with a team of nine from Lake Helen base camp. We had a storm the night before but woke up to a gorgeous full moon. An early start put us on the summit around 1030am. We took the old ranger cutoff on the walkout. Much faster and we were back at the cars in 2.5 hours from Lake Helen.

Lassen winter wonderland
A thanksgiving trip into the serene Mt Lassen area. A simple, straightforward snow climb.
I hiked this one with my wife Lori on the last day of 2013 that the Park Service had "opened" the trail (they are in the process of rebuilding it). When we started hiking we were in a cloud bank, but on the way up it cleared off and we had sunny and breezy conditions the rest of the way. Lori made it with me to the end of the maintained trail and then a little further but stopped shy of the actual highest point due to the fact that she wasn't comfortable on the very last steep stretch to the highest point(s). She doesn't consider herself a hiker but she did GREAT!

Walked to the top with my dad. The highlight was the view of Mt. Shasta from the top.

Southeast Ridge, Starting at Kohm Yah-mah-nee
With the park road closed, I hoofed it up the asphalt as far as the plows had made it so far, then mounted snow shoes to the ridge proper, and finally crampons to the summit. Varying snow conditions all along the route. Saw the tracks of the other two folks who posted their trips earlier this year along with various ski tracks from other hearty souls.
2-Day trip with an overnight camp at lake Helen, took the summer trail to the summit.
For somebody who wants to go soon:
Road to the trailhead is only partially cleared (about half of it, but you can check on the park's website). Also snow started to melt after 10am on our decent so consider an early start.
Easy in the summer, a great place for kids beginning to climb.

4x
First climbed in August 2002 via the trail.
In May 2004 we were there when the road was plowed to the trailhead, but not all the way through. NPS allows camping in the crater in the winter, defined as when the road isn't fully opened, so spent a VERY windy but memorable night up top.
Again in May 2012 from the Devastated Area before the road opened up. Easy and steep climb to the top, with the boot track I didn't even need to bother with crampons. The glissade down resulted in a few tons on wet slides taking me for a ride... good time!
And again in winter 2013 (February) as part of an overnight trip covering the ridge from Lassen to Brokeoff (almost). Stopped just short of Brokeoff at the last bump as the route up the steep side of Brokeoff did not look very appealing.

Via Lassen Peak Trail
Last acclimatization hike before climbing Shasta. Short but hearty trail. Clearing storm only allowed for views to the east - still fabulous. Explored the crater a bit before going down. Win!
Climbed a few times. It takes me about 1:20 or so to do. Don it and Brokoff in the same day. one year I explored a bunch of the cracks and holes in the crater. There was almost no snow at the time.
