Lassen
Pleasant hike. There is a little bit of scrambling to get to 1 of the 2 contenders at the summit.

Bang for your buck
Climbed with my girlfriend, was her first time attempting to summit a peak like this, we bagged it no problem. Views were pristine.

Lassen 2nd Time and Lassen Park 9K Peaks
Climbed Mt. Lassen again (climbing the Cascade volcanoes a second time). Descended the trail down to just before the parking lot then climbed my remaining Lassen Park 9,000 foot peaks (Eagle Peak and Mt. Diller), and Ski Heil Peak.

I made it.
Pretty good amount of snowfields throughout the hike. Also quite windy at the top, which is to be expected.

Lassen multi-sport, biked up closed road from Visitors Center to where snow blocked the road at Lake Helen. Splitboard from there. Awesome descent down the south face, and then ride down the road. Great day out, perfectly clear skies. With seano
Got to the trailhead about 7am and there were only 3 other cars there. Bright sunshine and perfect conditions, with a bit of snow still on the trail. 1.5 hours up and an even hour down. I brought some unnecessary gear (ice spikes, gaiters, spare socks, rain pants) in my backpack, but may have needed that a week earlier.

Slogged the conga line
Slogged up the conga line with about 300 other people. Didn't notice the crowd after 9000 feet... I really have to give up smoking. The hiking herd was surprisingly polite for that many people on that crowded of trail. This is a beautiful trail, very well maintained with stunning views every step of the way. Arrived at the parking lot on a Saturday 9 a.m. and took the last parking spot. Yep it's a popular Trail but worth it.
Lassen Peak via the standard Lassen Peak Trailhead parking lot. We were on the trail by 11:50 and made it to the summit by 1:00. Party of 2. 2.5 miles and 1 hour 10 minutes to the summit. 1,975 ft of elevation gain. The trail was in excellent condition (major props to the National Parks team). No need for trekking poles or any gear other than a hiking boots, hat, and a wind breaker at the top. Weather on the 4th of July was fantastic. We spent around 50 minutes exploring the summit cone before starting our descent which took about 55 minutes. Very popular trail with lots of inexperienced hikers so expect to have to stop and wait at certain switchbacks during “rush hour”.

Lassen is opened up again!
Lower section is mostly snow covered still. About 75% of the Trail is covered up to about 9500 ft. Above that it’s mostly bare. Snow in the crater but the summit block is clear. Be careful, the snow becomes very rotten and slick as the day goes on and the sun warms things up. I started at 0600 and am very glad I did. Coming down was a bit dicey. I would not want to descend at 1500 when it’s super rotten and slick. Poles and easy on/off crampons would help. I’d hate to slip on the permanent snowfield traverse. It’s a long slide to the bottom of the gully. But otherwise it was a perfect bluebird day. Views of Shasta and other ranges and lakes were pristine.
