Like a Subalpine Beach

The mountains in this area are largely composed of highly weathered, powdery granite that gives one the feeling of standing on a beach without the water. This view looks west across Schwar Creek to Indian Peak from the north ridge of Elk Mountain. Large fires in the area made visibility poor. July 2007
