3 Peak traverse
Made a day out of a really fun ridge traverse of PK 9045, Little Pyramid and PK 8925. All three are P300's, but this was one of those times when the quality of the hiking far outweighs the peaks you get - this was a classic hike that I highly recommend if you like off trail scrambling and route finding through class 2/3 boulders. Total of 13.5 miles and around 4,000 feet of gain.
We started from the end of Wrights Lake Road, taking the Rockbound trail to the Rockbound Pass. From the Pass we started cross country up PK 9045, this was lots of class 2 ramps and enjoyable. From the summit we found a good descent gully down a couple hundred feet over boulders to gentler terrain, dropping another 100 feet or so to the saddle on the way to Little Pyramid. This was the easiest ascent of the day, very simple class 1/2 to the summit, great views. From up here we could now see the last planned peak of the day, PK 8925.
The ridge looked incredibly narrow and the face of the peak looked dangerously steep and we semi-decided not to attempt it. Fortunately, our modified descent route still had us going down to the saddle, so we could continue to inspect PK 8925 to see if maybe we felt better about it as we got closer. We decided to go for it and this was by far the best part of the day, we mostly stayed below the ridge to the right, the terrain was a mix of giant boulders and granite slabs, intermixed with snow that we tried to avoid as best we could. 8 hours for the round trip.
Done this one many times, starting in the early 80s. From Twin Lakes it's a fun little class 3 scramble on classic Sierra granite.

From Wrights Lake
Still a fair amount of snow above Wrights Lake. Went by Twin Lakes and Island Lake on my way to the summit.

Island Lake
Nice day. Skeeters were nasty by Island Lake, but otherwise a fun hike.

Island Lake
go up the red/orange face if you come from Island Lake; it's more fun than skirting the brush further east. the slogging isn't so hot on the east ridge, but it gets the job done =)
