Came in from the St Joe side  Sucess!

Looped from Bass Lake down the little St Joe trail, hitting all three (Stormy, St Joe, lil' St Joe) along the ridge. Made for a hard day, lots of class 3, with some decent exposure at times.

Still Skiing  Sucess!

Quick ski before work in June. North side melted out so skied back down the main trail. Wish I had time to ski St. Joe, which looked pretty epic!

What a pleasure!  Sucess!

New contender for favorite hike near Missoula. Some of the best views I've seen of the Bitterroot and a reasonably good road and trail. I'd recommend this to anyone who doesn't mind a fairly solid uphill grade.

Where's my bottle?  Sucess!

Climbed up in a rather smoky July. The huckleberries were plentiful, which made for a slow hike. We learned that our 10 year old lab likes to pick them straight from the plant and eat 'em up :) Wanted to push on for Big St. Joe, but a lost water bottle at the top of 'Little' and the huck feast made for a full day as it was.

East Ridge  Sucess!

First time up and tried to take on Saint Joseph. Sadly we ran a little late and didn't know the route up St. Joseph.

Morning Hike  Sucess!

Standard route. Lots of snow up higher. Fun to hike up the hard set snow. Had the whole peak to myself. Great day.

First time up Little St Joe  Sucess!

We started off thinking we were going to hike up Sheafman Creek, but the further down the valley we got it seemed like the smoke was getting thicker so we stopped to do Little St Joe Peak. It was a tough and hot day, but made it up. Needed to get acclimatized more at the beginning though.

Winter Trip  Sucess!

Skinned up the ridge with a headlamp to the RM cabin the night before, stayed with some very nice folks there and had a great time in the cozy cabin. Continued to the top the next day in strong windy conditions, but some pretty excellent views. Snow was pretty crusty up high from the wind but decent skiing in the trees on the east slope. I bet there are quite a few folks out there that have been up this one way too many times to remember!

Good hike  Sucess!

August 2006
A good steep trail up. Late start kept us from continuing on to St Joe.

solo ski  Sucess!

Fun ski on a clear day! Had to call my friend, who's at work, from the summit to rub it in.

Trail  Sucess!

A well deserved rest stop on the way to and From St Joseph Peak. I got to see epic views of the Kootenai Fire on the descent.

Great hike  Sucess!

Another fantastic Bitterroot summit. If I had to pick ONE area to seek my adventures in for the rest of my life, I'd have to choose the Selway-Bitterroot country. P.S. This is not the exact date of my climb. (My apologies to the purists)

happy birthday count grizzly!  Sucess!

vernon's birthday climb. unfortunately the regular joe part got white room snowed out. still a fun day out with mike hoyt and vernon. the trail didn't seem too grunt-y to me. can see how this would be a fun backcountry ski destination.

Standard Route/Trail  Sucess!

Climbed with Meleah and Mike Hoyt; good trail most of the way, but it's a grunt! We had intended to also do Saint Joseph Peak, but ran into spitting snow around 8,000 feet, which by the time we hit the summit (9,033'), was steady, with a cold wind and almost no visibility. At this point it was our unanimous decision to turn around--footing was quite uncertain, Saint Joseph's was still two miles away via a ridge that gets pounded with wind, plus that summit was still over 500 feet higher than where we were. It's always difficult to turn back, but it was a no-brainer--absolutely the right call!
