Judging by the summit register, the most common route taken by people who summit is to drive up Sheep Mountain Road (FR 28) to Merle Creek, and hike from there. This will be a quicker drive, suitable for all vehicles.
Other ascents have been made from Crazy Woman Creek (FR 449), Powder River Pass (US 16), the Pole Creek Road (FR 31, by a pair of geologists doing field work), Baby Wagon Creek (Virginia Creek Trail), and from the Hanson Sawmill Trail (Sourdough Road FR 23 to FR 491).
