Yosemite, closer to my childhood home, drew me like a magnet throughout much of my life. But seeing this part of the world later in life, and hoofing up Alta Peak under winter conditions, created an equally strong bond. Lodgepole and its surrounding mountains and trees will always be vivid in my mind.

Bonus!
Meeting my wife led me to SEKI, and to her accepting my marriage proposal near a famous tree.

Alta and beyond ..
In 1996, I was working a seasonal maintenance position in SEKI.
Being a "seasonal," I didn't have access to a computer, but I
somehow managed to find Alta Peak and Moose Lake. What a hike!!!
One of my favorite places. Hiking, snowshoeing, fishing, swimming... a few other ings. Love the place!

Lived at Lodgepole for 2 summers
Lived and worked at Lodgepole for 2 summers as an interp ranger. Have hiked all of the trails in the area many times. Have gone back as a tourist and have camped there in the summer and on the snow in the winter. Love it here 4 seasons...

Can't believe it took me 42 years to get to Sequoia and see the Big Trees! Rob took me to climb Chimney Spire and do the tourist thing looking at the giants, General Sherman and Lodgepole. So glad I have finally seen those amazing, ancient giants and opened my mind to all the historical imaginings. You can almost see a progression of thousands of years animals, native peoples, 49ers, etc. I'm sure all the people stood in awe at the base in exactly the same way. How anyone could cut one down is beyond me. Thanks again Rob, for yet another experience I'll always remember.
