Busy Fourth of July weekend. Saw 8-10 other climbers. First dry day after 3 days of rain. Beautiful climb and summit! Been wanting to get over and climb this one for a long time!

NE Ridge
Traverse via the NE ridge to the NW ridge. Beautiful scramble up the NE Ridge! A little dicey down low, but once on the ridge proper, it's a fun ride to the top! We roped up and simul climbed the whole ridge allowing us to stay right on the edge all the way up. Super fun San Juan scramble with an outstanding view from the summit.

Quick but rewarding
Quick up and down on Lone Cone. About 2.5 hours round trip. Fresh August snows on the Wilson group and in the further San Juans. Ice covering the talus the last 500 feet or so to the summit.

nice hike
enjoyed the hike, read a book on its summit, great views
via northwest ridge with Duchess, my son and a friend. We were thinking about crossing the mountain initially, but for Duchess decided for the easier hike up. Lovely summit, great views, very scenic.

Lonesome Solitude
Two days spent enjoying the peaceful solitude of the mountain without any other campers or hikers. Almost broke my leg post holing through the snow to get to Devil's Chair, but pushing through to the summit was well worth the fleeting pain. That summit view will last forever...one of my favorite peaks to date.

Alone on the Cone: NW Ridge
No one else on the mountain (except the girlfriend)! Road blocked by snow at about 10300' and 5-6 feet of snow on the approach, but the NW ridge was a dry rockpile. Truly awesome summit panorama -one of my favorites. Tons of glissading and self-arrest practice. Bear tracks, lynx tracks and more. Camped here for 2 nights with perfect weather and views of Wilson Peak.

NE Ridge in the Fog
An exiting but short climb! Stuck to the ridge proper the whole way up, halfway down, and shredded the Devil's Chair the rest of the way down
When Dry is much easier than many sources suggest and the looseness and most of the exposure is avoidable. Climb this route when conditions are good. The NW is rather boring by comparrison...though a day up here is far better than not at all! Enjoy.
Route Climbed: NW Ridge Date Climbed: May 22, 2005
Great place to be, there was no one there when i went, of course that was in May when there was plenty of snow left. Easy hike in and up and great views of surrounding San Juan mountains!
Route Climbed: North Ridge. Date Climbed: Sept. 1, 2005
Planned on hiking the NW ridge but the access road was blocked, so we decided to do the North ridge instead. That was a bit of a nuisance for an otherwise fine afternoon hike.
